Saint John created strong pressure early in the game.

Zilbert found himself in front of the Remparts' goal twice near the five-minute mark, just missing the net on a pair of shots.

Quebec struck first a couple of minutes later.

Erne, fresh off time with Team U.S.A. at the World Junior Hockey Championships, picked up the puck near his own blueline, charged in on the right wing side, went wide on the defence and fired a shot that went off Sea Dogs' goalie Sebastien Auger's right arm and rolled into the net.

With under three minutes left in the period, Brassard denied Saint John overager Lukas Walter on a close-in shot from the right side.

The 2012 Ottawa Senators sixth-round pick also made a left shoulder stop on a one-time slap shot from Olivier LeBlanc at the top of the left circle.

The Sea Dogs were outshot 9-7 in the first period and trailed 1-0.

Erne found the net again just ten seconds into the second period.

Sorensen threaded a pass through the middle to Erne, who deked to his forehand and snapped a shot inside the right post to make it 2-0 for Quebec.

The Sea Dogs nearly scored twice while shorthanded in the next three minutes.

Nicolas Hebert was found alone in front of the Quebec net and took two solid shots from point-blank range that Brassard kicked out with his right leg.

Then Brassard used his left pad to stone Jason Cameron on a breakaway as the Saint John forward tried to deke to his backhand.

The Quebec goalie denied Hebert again with a flashy glove save around seven minutes into the period.

The Sea Dogs trailed 2-0 through two periods despite holding a 13-10 shot edge in the second.

Auger's best save of the game came on a delayed penalty two minutes into the third period.

Sorensen snuck in on a short breakaway from the Saint John line, and took the puck toward the lower left side of the crease. But the silver-medalist with Team Sweden at the WJC had his wrist shot tipped wide of the Saint John goal by Auger, who dove from his left to his right to stay with the play.

Sorensen did pad the Quebec advantage eight minutes into the third, ripping home a one-time snap shot from the bottom of the left circle to finish off a 3-on-2 rush.

The Sea Dogs broke Brassard's shutout bid with 59.7 seconds left.

Zilbert gained space on the right wing side and sent a wrister from the faceoff dot that got through Brassard's legs and across the line.

Quebec outshot Saint John 9-7 in the third period and 28-27 in the game.

Erne and Sorensen took first and second star honours while Brassard nailed down the third selection with 26 saves in front of 9,198 fans in attendance.

Auger took the loss with 25 stops for Saint John.
