Gateway Grizzlies News Release

The Gateway Grizzlies have announced second baseman Jonathan Johnson will be returning in 2014 for his third season with the team.

Johnson, 25, is a career .275 hitter and has been an instrumental part of the Grizzlies team success the last two seasons. In his two years, Johnson has played in 191 of the team's 192 games. He set a new team record in 2013, appearing in all 96 games. The 5-9 175-pound left-handed hitter has 42 combined stolen bases the past two seasons.

"Bringing back JJ was a main focus for us in the offseason," Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. "He produces consistently and he's a leader. We are thrilled to have him returning."

Johnson batted .295 with 26 extra base hits in 2012. The Lakewood, CA played in 95 games and his 65 game on-base streak to start the season set a Frontier League record.

"I'm very excited to get back on the field," Johnson said. "I already have the itch to get back and am really looking forward to the 2014 season. We had a great clubhouse last year and my host family has been awesome. I'm ready to get on the field with my teammates to start working on winning the league in 2014."

The Grizzlies 2014 regular season opener is on May 16th when they take on the Traverse City Beach Bums at GCS Ballpark. Season and Group tickets are on sale now. For more information call 618.337.3000.
