Sliders Re-Sign Two for 2014

January 5, 2014 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release

The Sliders announced that two players from the 2013 season will return in 2014. Joe Kelch from Illinois State University and Chance Simpson from Lincoln College will return for the Sliders in 2014.

Kelch, a redshirt sophomore, returns to the Sliders after playing in 24 games for Springfield in 2013. After a slow start Kelch found his stride in July and ended the season batting .278 which was the second highest on the team. Kelch also showed good defensive skills committing only two errors in the infield last season.

The other returnee is Chance Simpson who made 12 appearances for the Sliders as a pitcher last summer. Initially used as a reliever Simpson was converted to a starter in July and started six games. Simpson would give the Sliders four quality starts (at least six innings pitched and 3 or fewer earned runs) in his last five starts and ended the season with a respectable 2.74 ERA.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League with teams in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Their 60 game schedule begins in late May and runs into August. All Sliders home games are played at Robin Roberts Stadium located at 1415 N Grand Ave E in Springfield, IL.
