December 31, 2013 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Red Deer Rebels News Release

The Rebels, playing their third game in four nights, sought their sixth straight win against a Wheat Kings club they beat 4-2 back on October 5.

FIRST PERIOD

The Rebels quest for six got off to a rocky start as the Wheat Kings scored three times in the opening 7:14 of the game.  Tyler Coulter with his 5th, just 30 seconds in, Ryan Pulock with his 12th and Tim McGauley with his 11th gave Brandon an early 3-0 lead.  The Wheaties took their three goal lead into the first intermission having outshot the Rebels by a 16-3 margin.

SECOND PERIOD

The Rebels hit the scoresheet in the opening minute of the middle period.  Conner Bleackley, with his 19th of the season, made it a 3-1 game with a powerplay goal at the 26 second mark.  Haydn Fleury and Nick Charif picked up the assists on the goal.

Red Deer cut the deficit to one just before the halfway mark of the frame.  Lukas Sutter pushed the puck forward on an offensive zone faceoff and found a wide open Wyatt Johnson near the crease.  Johnson tapped home his 8th of the season at 9:13 to make it 3-2.

The Wheat Kings regained a two goal advantage when Richard Nejezchleb jammed home a rebound for his 21st goal of the campaign.  Drayton Valley's Kord Pankewicz and John Quenneville earned the assists on the goal at 14:08, 4-2 Brandon.

During a 4-on-4 situation, Cole Chorney fed the puck to Haydn Fleury to start an odd-man rush for the Rebels.  Fleury then fed Matt Bellerive who snapped home his 7th of the season past Wheat Kings goalie Jordan Papirny.  Brandon's lead through 40 minutes was cut to 4-3.

THIRD PERIOD

Neither team scored in the third period, allowing the Wheat Kings to escape with a 4-3 victory.
