Mustangs Continue Perfect Campaign With Clean Sheet Over Illinois

December 30, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Chicago Mustangs News Release

The Chicago Mustangs of the Professional Arena Soccer League have extended their season winning streak to eight wins, and have yet to concede a loss in the 2013-14 season. It was clear from the opening kick that the visitors had a simple game plan to not let the game get away from them. The Illinois Piasa came into Saturday's match with only one win on their eight games played. Also, the last time these to teams met back on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Grand Sports Arena, the Mustangs destroyed the Piasa 15-2. Although the final score of 8-0 in favor of the Mustangs is in improvement for Illinois from their last meeting, it was clear that the home team dominated this game.

The first quarter saw no pressure from the visiting team, as they lined up a power backline and attempted to intimidate the fast, high-energy offense of the Chicago Mustangs. The Mustangs peppered shots at Illinois' keeper Doug Lampert without hesitation. Shortly into the match the Mustangs Victor Sanchez was able to drive a perfectly placed shot into the upper left corner to put the Mustangs on top 1-0. Omar Santillan beautifully assisted Sanchez's goal. The game continued to be very one sided. In fact, at certain points in the quarter it felt as if Illinois had no intention of even playing a ball in the oppositions half. Time of possession was very lopsided, and Mustang's goalkeeper Jesus Flores got in an early game nap in net.

Not much changed in the second quarter, as the Mustangs continued to control the ball in the offensive half. The visiting squads continued to valiantly attempt to stop Chicago from scoring, and were doing a fairly good job of it. However, only one and a half minutes into the quarter the Mustangs put another goal on the board on a Efrain "Wilo" Martinez goal off of a Miguel Vaca assist. Before the half would come to an end Aurenei "Chico" Parisotto would bring the score to 3-0 on an Adan Quiroz assist.

At Halftime, Mustangs fans were able to see the award ceremony for the Chicago Mustangs Holiday Cup Tournament. Congratulations again to Grand FC Mustangs U8 team, Elgin Gladiadores U10 team, Elgin Gladiadores U12 team, Grand FC Mustangs U14 team and La Maquina U16 team on their outstanding play and wonderful sportsmanship during the tournament. The annual tournament continues to grow and is held every year between Christmas and New Years at Grand Sports Arena.

In the third quarter the action finally began to pick up as Illinois came out of the locker room reinvigorated. For the first time all match the Piasa's offense showed signs of life. However it was nothing too difficult for the Mustangs speedy defense to handle. And even as the PIasa continued to try to put together a drive, Wilo Martinez was still able to put another goal in for the Mustangs in the thirteenth minute of the quarter off a Chico up field pass on transition. And as the fourth quarter began it was clear the Mustangs had physically worn out the Piasa. The game was capped off by another 4 goals. Goals were credited to Wilo Martinez to give him his fourth hat trick of the season, as well as a stunning goal by Santillan, and two goals for Vaca with one being assisted by Quiroz.

The tattered Piasa will continue to try to put together the pieces before the Mustangs down to the Filed Sports Complex in Glen Carbon, Illinois on Saturday, January 11, 2014. In the Meantime the Mustangs will get ready to host the Cincinnati Saints on January 5, 2014 as they continue to make a push for a perfect season. The Saints are the only team to really give the Mustangs any problems this year when they met each other in Cincinnati on Saturday, November 9, 2013. The game went back and fourth, but the Mustangs were able to come out on top 7-6. The rematch will kick off at Grand Sports Arena in Hoffman Estates this Sunday at 4:05 PM.
