Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SYDNEY, N.S. - Samuel Dove-McFalls ' first career goal in the third period held up as the winner, as the Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 3-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Friday at Centre 200.

Jurij Repe and Oliver Cooper also tallied for Saint John (8-23-0-3), which ended a five-game losing streak.

William Carrier and Kyle Farrell responded for Cape Breton (19-14-0-3), which have lost two straight and three of their last four games.

The Sea Dogs nearly opened the scoring three minutes into the contest on a 2-on-1.

Winger Connor Donaghey moved in on the left side and fed a pass to a streaking David Weckworth, who chipped a shot from the low slot that Eagles' goalie Chase Marchand turned aside.

Sea Dogs' netminder Sebastien Auger made his best save of the period in the final ninety seconds.

Cape Breton import forward Maxim Lazarev cut in on the left side and tried a quick shot that Auger gloved low, to his left.

The Eagles outshot the Sea Dogs 14-6 in a scoreless first period.

Saint John used a two-man advantage to score the opening goal two-and-a-half minutes into the second period.

Repe moved in from the left point and fired a wrist shot that hit a Cape Breton stick and deflected high, past the glove of Marchand to make it a 1-0 game.

The Screaming Eagles thought they had tied it with about seven minutes left in the middle frame when Raphael Corriveau bowled over Auger as the puck came close to the goal line. The goal light went on, but the officials sent Corriveau off for goaltender interference instead.

And the Sea Dogs capitalized on the power play.

Alternate captain Olivier LeBlanc ripped a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that Cooper deflected past Marchand's glove.

Saint John led 2-0 after forty minutes, outshooting Cape Breton 11-4 in the second.

Auger stood tall just a minute into the third.

Screaming Eagles forward Clark Bishop spotted daylight and moved from the left corner into the low slot, sending a backhander toward the goal that Auger kicked aside with his right foot.

Cape Breton finally got on the board just before the halfway mark of the third period.

With the teams playing 4-on-4, Carrier intercepted a pass at the Saint John blueline, danced past the defence and deked to his backhand on Auger, tucking the puck into a wide-open cage.

Carrier, who turned 19 today, almost tied the game on a similar play with about eight minutes left.

The 2013 second-round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues weaved in on the right wing side and got a low shot to the net that Auger trapped between his legs.

The Sea Dogs regained a two-goal lead a short time later.

Spencer Smallman recovered the puck behind the Cape Breton net and spotted Dove-McFalls in the middle of the slot. The 16-year-old Montreal-native rifled a one-time snap shot past the glove of Marchand for his first QMJHL goal and a 3-1 Saint John lead.

Farrell scored a power play goal with under three minutes left to make it a 3-2 game.

The veteran Cape Breton centre watched from the right of the crease as a point shot from Justin Hache missed the net and bounced off the backboards and right onto his stick. Farrell chipped the puck up and over a fallen Auger.

The Screaming Eagles pulled Marchand with under a minute left, but could not tie the game.

Repe was named first star with a two-point performance in front of 2,184 fans in attendance. Auger took third star with 29 saves.

Marchand took the loss in goal for the Eagles with twenty stops.
