Miracles Fall to Saint John

December 12, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Moncton Miracles News Release

The Moncton Miracles just couldn't put themselves over the top in the fourth quarter of this one. On six separate occasions, the home team pulled to within 3 points of the Saint John Mill Rats.

Four of the Mill Rats five starters scored in double figures as they defeated the Miracles 118-113.

Saint John was lead by Anthony Anderson with 34 points, 6 assists, and by Doug Herring Jr, who poured in 23 points to go with 8 rebounds.

Trayvon Lathan was a bright spot in a losing effort with 25 points and 12 rebounds. The Miracles were also lead by Travis George with 19 points and 8 rebounds, and Stanley Robinson with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Miracles rushed out to an early 11 point lead, but had some costly turnovers allowing the Mill Rats to pull within three at 30-27 to end the first quarter. The road squad took the lead in the third quarter and never relinquished it, leading by as many as 10.

The Miracles won in almost every statistic: Shooting percentage (48% - 44%), rebounding (57-40), free throw percentage (81%-77%). The one that Saint John won has been an achilles heel for the Miracles over the course of this season: turnovers. Saint John won that battle 6-22.

The Miracles had 15 turnovers in the first half and while they took care of the ball in the second, it wasn't enough.

With seven lead changes, it was an exciting game. One the Miracles just couldn't put away when they had the chance.
