IceDogs Lose Tight One in Sault Ste. Marie 5-3
November 30, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell to the west division leading Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds by a score of 5-3 in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday night. The game was dominated by powerplay goals, with 6 of the game's 8 goals coming on the powerplay.
The home side would be the ones to open the scoring, as the Greyhounds would score on the powerplay at the 7:20 mark of the first to make it 1-0. The IceDogs would answer right back however, as Eric Ming would give the IceDogs a powerplay goal of their own on a five minute advantage to tie things up at 1-1 just over three minutes later. Vince Dunn would then score his first career OHL goal on the same five minute powerplay just under two minutes later to give the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead. That would prove to be it for scoring in the opening stanza as the IceDogs carried a one goal lead into the intermission. Shots after 20 minutes were 14-12 for the Soo.
In the second, the powerplay goals would continue, but unfortunately it would be the Greyhounds who would score them this time around. Sault Ste. Marie would pick up a pair of powerplay goals, before adding a third straight goal even strength to put the IceDogs behind 4-2. The young IceDogs squad would not let up however as they would fight back with another powerplay goal of their own before the end of the period, as Aleksandar Mikulovich would deflect one home for his second in as many nights, to make it 4-3 after two. Shots after two were 26-21 Greyhounds.
In the third, the IceDogs would battle hard looking for the equalizer, but it was not meant to be as Sault Ste. Marie would add an insurance marker with just over six minutes remaining to make it a 5-3 final. Final shots were 39-28 for the home side.
The IceDogs will now return home to St. Catharines and head for Mississauga on Friday, before playing host to the visiting North Bay Battalion a week from tonight, Saturday, December 7th in their annual Teddy Bear Toss game! Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location.
