Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, N.C - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League announce today that General Manager Chip Pruden has stepped down after three seasons at the helm of the teal and black.

Pruden, a Wilson, N.C. native, joined the Steamers front office prior to the 2011 season after serving as the assistant general manager of the Wilson Tobs for two years. Despite departing from the everyday managerial role, he will continue to help steward the Steamers as a member of the board of directors while pursuing a new career with Edward Jones Investments.

"I am very thankful for everyone who has supported me and the Steamers during the past three years," said Pruden. "I have fallen in love with this organization and this town and I look forward to still being involved with the Steamers as a member of the board and a resident of Edenton for many years to come."

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in sports management from North Carolina State University, Pruden interned one year with the Kinston Indians (formerly the high A affiliate for the Cleveland Indians) before moving on to his hometown Tobs. Pruden was hired to bring a stabilizing force to the Edenton Steamers front office after two years without an official general manager. While he ran the day-to-day operations, Edenton saw unprecedented success both on and off the field, including steady increases in attendance and performance on the field. Under Pruden's leadership, Edenton garnered three CPL Coach of the Year awards, a CPL Offensive Player of the Year, two CPL Broadcaster of the Year nods, numerous CPL Rawlings Players of the Week and All-Star selections along with the breaking of many franchise and league records.

"While he certainly will be missed, we wish Chip the very best in his new endeavor," commented Steamers President Allen Fredd. "He played a pivotal role for the Steamers over the past three seasons, working diligently to assure success on the field for our players and coaches, as well as providing a positive experience for our fans and supporters. Chip was recently elected to our Board of Directors and we look forward to him remaining involved with the Steamers and active in our community for many seasons to come."

With Pruden's exit from the front office, the Steamers have begun a nationwide search for a new general manager for the 2014 summer.
