Torrington Titans News Release

The Torrington Titans are excited to announce another front office addition for the 2014 season. Joey Abis has been appointed General Manager of the Titans. In making the announcement, President & General Partner Alan Seraita had this to say. "We are extremely lucky to have Joey join the Titans. His experience with the league office will provide the experience necessary to give the city of Torrington a team they can be proud of. Joey's vast skill set will empower him to put into place a great many exciting new concepts. Going to games this summer will be a treat for everyone".

Joey comes to the Titans off of his first season as Assistant to the Commissioner of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England, Chris Hall. Joey is a recent graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where he majored in Business Administration and minored in Sport Management.

His resume in baseball is definitely tenured for such a young age. Starting at age 12, he began working for a local baseball team near his hometown of Amherst, NH, the Nashua Pride located just a town over in Nashua, NH. Abis said, "It was literally what every kid would've dreamed of. Getting the chance to work alongside Butch Hobson (former Red Sox Manager and Third Baseman, 1973-94), Rich "El Guapo" Garces (former Red Sox reliever 96'-02'), and Chris Hall (current FCBL Commissioner, and former Nashua Pride VP of Baseball Operations) was the chance of a lifetime."

Over the past few years Joey had the opportunity to work through the league office with Commissioner Chris Hall. Chris said, "Joey deserves this opportunity." He noted that, "he has worked extremely hard to learn the game of baseball from a bat boy to the front office and everything in between." He went on to say, "Joey knows what it takes to make a franchise successful. He will be a great asset to the city of Torrington."

The Nashua Pride, a professional baseball team, once a member of the Atlantic League, and the Can-Am League was an independent league team located in Nashua, NH from 1998 - 2008. While with the Pride Joey was a part of every facet of the organization. Starting as a bat boy, working his way into the clubhouse staff, and soon the front office.

In 2009 the franchise was sold to an ownership group including Dan Duquette current Executive Vice-President of Baseball Operations for the Baltimore Orioles, and former general manager of the Boston Red Sox, and Montreal Expos. . The new team, and ownership group lasted only one season, they moved out of Nashua to Pittsfield, MA. Abis remained with the team while located in Nashua working as the Sound Engineer, and was also an instrumental part of the front office due to his tenure with the team.

Joey stated that he could not be more excited for the 2014 season to start, but also stated that he was highly appreciative of the hard work put in by his predecessors. "Former general manager Eddie Gadomski, and his assistant Mallory Jensen worked their tails off last season, and their hard work truly showed." He expressed his gratitude towards their hard work and plans to recognize them for their efforts in the 2014 season.

When asked about plans for the new season ahead of him, Abis said, "I plan to run things similar to a minor league team. I've seen the model throughout the league and I know how things will work best for the great city of Torrington."
