Dallas Sidekicks News Release

ALLEN, Texas - The Sidekicks began their 2013-14 season with a big win, defeating the Wichita B-52s 15""3 in front of a crowd of 4,514 at the Allen Event Center Saturday night. Midfielder Nestor Hernandez impressed during his first game as a Sidekick, scoring four goals and one assist. Franck Mbemba was a standout with four goals of his own. The win gives the Sidekicks franchise a 10-2 overall record when opening the season at home. The team's 15 goals were the most the club has ever scored in a home opener, and the Sidekicks continue their 9-name regular season home winning streak carried over from last season.

Action remained almost solely in Wichita territory for the first quarter. Franck Mbemba started things off at 5:39, scoring on a pass from Shaun David who wrestled the ball through a cluster of B-52 defenders. Next came Sidekicks newcomer Nestor Hernandez with his first for the franchise at 6:18. Sagu earned the assist, Hernandez scoring after controlling a throw in from the veteran goaltender. David scored a goal of his own at 7:38 - the third Sidekicks' goal in a four minute increment. A foul caused a goal from Sidekicks forward Carlos Videla to be waived off, but Ricardinho capitalized on the ensuing penalty kick at 12:31. The Sidekicks ended the first quarter up 5-0 with a final goal from Hernandez, his second of the night scored from inside the penalty area at 13:00.

Wichita's Matt Clare put the B-52s on the board early in the second quarter, beating Sagu at close range on a pass from Colin Lawte at 1:48. Sidekicks midfielder Patrick Shamu struck back a few minutes later, stealing the ball around midfield and weaving through the B-52s defense, scoring inbetween goalkeeper Nick Martinez's legs at 3:17. A succession of powerplay goals put the Sidekicks up 8-1, Mbemba getting his second of the night at 4:55 and Bruno Guarda scoring his first of the season at 7:44. After a showcase of some great saves from Martinez, Alex Moseley shifted the score to 8-2 at 14:05 to close out the half.

Jamie Lovegrove started off the third period with a pair of goals, the first on an inside pass from defenseman Sean Bellomy just 47 seconds in and the second at 4:28 on a give-and-go with Carlos Videla. At 7:37 Travis Pittman scored Wichita's third goal of the ni.ght, bringing the score to 10-3. A Sidekicks shorthanded goal followed, Hernandez using the boards to his advantage and cementing his first hat trick as a Sidekick at 11:24. Some impressive passing from Mbemba and Lovegrove resulted in Mbemba completing his hat trick as well, scoring at 13:02 and bringing the score to 12-3 going into the final 15 minutes of the match.

Videla scored his first of the night early in the fourth quarter, capitalizing after a series of rebounds at 1:54. Mbemba and Hernandez both got their fourth goals of the evening later in the period, cementing the Sidekicks' victory with a final score of 15-3.

Next weekend the Sidekicks hit the road for a two game trip to California, where they will face San Diego and Ontario in their home openers in back to back games on November 9 and 10. The Sidekicks return to the Allen Event Center on Saturday, November 16 to face the Tulsa Revolution, another expansion team, at 7:00 p.m.
