Jakaitis Leads Stingrays Past Gladiators

North Charleston, S.C. - Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 36 saves to help the South Carolina Stingrays (6-0-0-1) defeat the Gwinnett Gladiators (1-6-0-0) 3-1 Friday evening at the North Charleston Coliseum and send their season-opening unbeaten streak to seven games and winning streak to six contests.
Forward Igor Gongalsky buried his first goal of the season at 3:28 of the opening period to give the Stingrays the first lead of the night slipping a shot over the right pad of Gladiators netminder Peter Delmas (L, 26 saves on 28 shots) from the left-wing circle. Forward Jordan Owens and defenseman Steve Spinell added assists. The Gladiators tied the game 46 seconds into the second period when forward Philippe Halley knocked in a pass from forward Dirk Southern past the blocker of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (W, 36 saves on 37 shots). Forward Kevin Veilleux recorded the second assist.
In the final frame, Stingrays rookie forward Marc Hagel buried the game-winning goal on the power play with 4:32 to play blasting a pass from forward Chad Painchaud past Delmas from the left-wing circle. Defenseman Jeremy Price received the second assist. Forward Scott Campbell sealed the victory with an empty-net unassisted shorthanded goal at 19:26 to extend his personal point streak to seven games (seven goals, three assists) and goal streak to six games (seven goals). The Stingrays wrapped up the night 1-for-4 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-7.
