(Green Bay, WI) USA Hockey today announced forwards Nick Schmaltz and Matt Weis and defenseman Jordan Gross were named to the U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete in the 2013 World Junior A Challenge next month in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The World Junior A Challenge is six-team international tournament featuring the United States, Czech Republic, Russia, Switzerland, and two teams from Canada. The U.S. team is annually made up of USHL players and has dominated the tournament, winning it four of the last five years.

Internationally, Schmaltz led the United States in scoring with nine points at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Tournament helping Team USA capture the silver medal. This season, Schmaltz currently ranks second on the Gamblers in scoring with six points in seven games.

Weis also is no stranger to International play as the Madison, New Jersey native saw action in four games for the United States U-18 team at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Weis, in his third season with the Gamblers, has registered four points in three games.

Gross appeared in 64 games for the Gamblers last season scoring seven goals and 24 assist splitting time during the 2011-2012 season between the Gamblers, Team Northwest, and Maple Grove High School. This season, the Maple Grove, Minnesota native has tallied four points in seven games.

Schmaltz, Gross and Weis will join Gamblers Head Coach Derek Lalonde, who was also named head coach of the U.S. Junior Select Team for a second consecutive year earlier this month.
