Storm Kids Charity Announces Dream Home Draw Date

Island Storm News Release

"A true labor of love".

That's how Sherwood BMR co-owner Darren MacKay describes the beautiful Storm Kids Dream Home. The home is a partnership between several of MacKay's companies - including Chandlers Cabinets and Millworking, Kinlock Creek, Sherwood BMR, and the Island Storm professional basketball team. The idea of building a lottery home stemmed from the Storm's precedent-setting charitable work done in the 2012-2013 basketball season. Between October and May, the team raised over $95,000 for charities across Prince Edward Island.

MacKay says it only made sense to create a project that could highlight all aspects of the company's businesses.

"When you have the relationships already built with valued Sherwood BMR customers like Ross MacMillan at Greenleaf Construction and suppliers like Atlantic Windows, BP Roofing, or Royal Crest Siding, it seems only natural that you would approach them to see if they were interested in helping with this huge project for such important charities."

MacKay says the charities chosen by the Dream Home project team are all youth-oriented and Island based.

"Our goal as an organization has always been to raise funds for people across PEI. We have designated the Maternal Child Care Unit of the Prince County Hospital in Summerside, the Pediatric Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, KidSport PEI, and Easter Seals of PEI as the four charities which will equally benefit from Dream Home ticket sales."

Storm Basketball Head Coach Joe Salerno, a native of Vermont, says he can't believe the amount of support that comes from an Island of PEI's size.

"Coming to PEI, I couldn't get over the size. It's small, but it's mighty. Anytime the Storm would do something for a great cause, the communities stepped up to help out in whatever way they could. On the other hand, I'm so proud of the way my players over the last two seasons have gone the extra mile to give back to the communities on PEI. We are so excited to help out with the Storm Kids Dream Home - it's one of the best fundraisers I've ever seen."

Another way the Storm will be involved with the Dream Home? The draw for the home will take place during the Storm's traditional home game on New Year's Eve. The game is set for 7:00pm at the Eastlink Centre when the Island team will host the Halifax Rainmen.

The Storm Kids Charity invites you to take a tour of this $400,000 luxury home during its tour hours:

Thursday - 5-8pm

Friday - 5-8pm

Saturday - 10am-5pm

Sunday - 12-5pm

Tickets are $125 each or 3/$300. You can purchase them at the Dream Home during hours of operation, at Sherwood BMR (over the phone there too!), and at all Island Storm home games at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
