Chicago Sky's Elena Delle Donne Named Rookie of the Month

NEW YORK, September 3, 2013 - Chicago Sky guard/forward Elena Delle Donne has been named Rookie of the Month for games played in August, the WNBA announced today. This marks the third consecutive Rookie of the Month honor for Delle Donne.
For August, Delle Donne led all rookies in scoring (18.4 ppg), rebounding (5.8 rpg), three-point field goal percentage (.593, 16-for-27), and ranked second in blocks (1.6 bpg). The first year standout scored a career-high 32 points, her first time hitting the 30-point plateau, against the West-leading Minnesota Lynx in a 94-86 overtime victory on Aug. 11. Delle Donne forced overtime with her fourth three-pointer of the game with 4.5 seconds left in regulation. The Sky finished the month 6-2 and has won six straight.
The Delaware native has helped the Sky (21-8) clinch the best record in the East and a franchise-first playoff berth. Delle Donne ranks first overall in free-throw percentage (.916, 131-for-143), fourth in scoring (18.3 ppg), and fifth in blocks (1.3 bpg). For the season, Delle Donne has scored in double digits in all but two games.
Highlights of Delle Donne's month included:
- Aug. 11 vs. Minnesota: Career-high 32 points on 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in an overtime 94-86 win
- Aug. 20 vs. Washington: 24 points and eight rebounds in a 79-73 victory
- Aug. 24 vs. Atlanta: 25 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in a 67-65 win
