Ogden Raptors News Release

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - The Grand Junction Rockies used a six-run second inning to beat the Ogden Raptors 8-4 Monday night at Suplizio Field.

Correlle Prime started the bottom of the second with a solo homer to right field, his seventh of the season, to break a scoreless tie. Jairo Rosario followed with an infield single and moved to third on two wild pitches. Ryan Garvey brought home Rosario with an infield single to shortstop. Two batters later, Dom Nunez and Wesley Jones hit back-to-back singles to bring in Garvey. Raimel Tapia ended the scoring with a three-run homer to right field, giving the Rockies a 6-0 lead.

The Raptors had their chances to stage a comeback. In the sixth inning, trailing 7-3, the Raptors loaded the bases with nobody out with a single from Austin Cowen and Kyle Farmer and Joey Curletta getting hit by consecutive pitches. However, Justin Chigbogu and Alex Santana struck out to keep the bases loaded. A wild pitch scored Cowen before Jacob Scavuzzo struck out to end the inning with only one run scoring.

In the ninth, the Raptors had another chance to come back. Trailing 8-4, Chigbogu hit a single to left field to begin the inning. Santana then reached on a fielder's choice with Chigbogu out at second base. Scavuzzo then singled to left field to put runners on first and second. After Pat Stover flied to right for the second out, Dillon Moyer walked to load the bases. Jesmuel Valentin, representing the tying run, struck out in a nine-pitch at bat to end the game.

The Raptors ended the game 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position on Tuesday.

Ogden must win all six games remaining to stay in the hunt for the second half division title. Idaho Falls must win exactly one of the four remaining games against Orem with the Owlz winning the other three. The Rockies must win both games against Idaho Falls on Sept. 5 and 6.

The scenario would have Ogden and Idaho Falls finish tied for first place with Orem 0.5 games behind. The Raptors would hold a head-to-head tiebreaker having won 11 of 16 games to take the division.

The Raptors and Rockies continue their four-game series Tuesday. Ogden will send Luis De Paula to the mound. The lefty will face Major Leaguer Roy Oswalt, who is rehabbing from the Colorado Rockies. Oswalt is scheduled to throw 55 pitches. The game starts at 7:05 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
