Ogden Raptors News Release

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - Grand Junction Rockies starting pitcher Devin Burke dominated the Ogden Raptors for six innings in a 9-2 Ogden Raptors loss Sunday night at Suplizio Field.

Burke shutout the Raptors for the first six innings, allowing just three hits and a walk. The Pioneer League All-Star earned his fifth win.

The Rockies started the game with three runs in the first inning. The league's leading hitting, Raimel Tapia, drove in a run with a groundout, and Ryan McMahon hit a two-run double to put the Rockies ahead 3-0.

Grand Junction added five more in the sixth inning, capitalizing on three Raptors errors. Tapia started the inning with a single up the middle. Jordan Patterson then hit a grounder that got by second baseman Zach Babitt, putting runners on first and third on the error. McMahon then had another big hit with a three-run homer to centerfield, knocking Raptors starter Victor Araujo out of the game.

Jackson Mateo entered the game and struck out Ryan Garvey, but then he gave up a double to Terry McClure. Robbie Perkins then hit a swinging-bunt single in front of home plate. Catcher Dimitri Papantonopoulos threw the ball low to first that let McClure score on the second error of the inning. Wesley Jones then hit a slow roller to shortstop that went under the glove of Jesmuel Valentin, allowing Perkins to score on the third error and putting the Rockies ahead 8-0.

Jacob Scavuzzo hit a solo homer to left to lead off the ninth inning for the Raptors. The blast was Scavuzzo's 13th, pulling ahead of Helena's Michael Ratterree for sole possesion of the league lead.

The Raptors are four games out of first place with seven games remaining. Ogden can lose only one more game and still have enough wins to claim the second half championship over Idaho Falls and Orem.

The Raptors and Rockies will continue their four-game series Monday. Jose De Leon takes the mound for Ogden against Grand Junction's Alex Balog. Game starts at 7:05 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
