Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Rust, Mancini, Vader Lead Aberdeen To Big Victory
The Aberdeen IronBirds got a home run from Tanner Rust, a 4-5 night from Trey Mancini, and another spectacular outing from Sebastian Vader, all leading to a 7-0 victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones last night. The win means that the IronBirds are once again in first place in the McNamara Division. Vader went seven innings, allowing just four hits and one walk, striking out four. Rust came up with two outs in the second inning and belted a line drive home run to right field, giving the IronBirds a kick start and a 1-0 lead. Mancini made sure the IronBirds would stay in the lead. He had three singles and a double, an RBI, and two runs scored in the rout.
Vader Sets Records...
With last night's win, Sebastian Vader set the IronBirds' franchise record for wins by a right-handed pitcher in a season with seven. He eclipses a mark set by Joe Coppinger (2003), Jeff Moore (2006), and Kenny Mooreland (2009). Vader also has now pitched 85.1 innings this season, breaking the record of 85.0 innings set by David Farren back in 2002, the franchise's inaugural season.
...And Mancini Closes In On Another
After his 4-5 outing last night, IronBirds' first baseman Trey Mancini needs just three hits over the final four games of the season to break the franchise record for most hits in a single season. Mancini currently has 81 base hits. The record is 83, set by Kipp Schutz back in 2010.
Lowell, Tri-City On The Horizon?
After tonight's game, the IronBirds return home to close out the regular season with three games against the Lowell Spinners, the Class A-Short Season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Lowell just a few days ago was four games out of first, but a five game winning streak and a Tri-City five game losing streak have the Spinners in the driver's seat in the Stedler Division. Brooklyn will travel to Tri-City to close out their season.
On the mound tonight...
Aberdeen will send Hunter Harvey to the mound tonight in the team's final game in Brooklyn this season. Harvey, the Baltimore Orioles' 2013 1st round draft pick, will be making his third start as an IronBird. He is 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA. In his last start, Harvey pitched 3.1 innings at Lowell. He allowed six hits, three runs (all earned), and two walks, striking out five. He did not factor into the decision as the IronBirds would go on to win 8-3 in 11 innings. Brooklyn will go with Dario Alvarez, who is 2-4 with a 3.44 ERA.
