Mississippi Braves News Release

Jacksonville, FL - The Mississippi Braves jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on Saturday night, but the Jacksonville Suns came clawing back in the middle innings, taking game three of a five-game series 5-3 at Bragan Field.

In the seventh, reliever Juan Jaime walked Taylor Krick to put the go-ahead run aboard in a 3-3 tie game. Brent Keys laid down a sacrifice bunt moving the tie breaker to second, then Austin Barnes stroked a triple to right, giving the Suns a 4-3 lead.

For Barnes, it was his second big hit of the night. Two innings earlier in the sixth, with the Braves up 3-2, Barnes singled to plate Keys with two outs, tying the game 3-3.

That single spelled the end for Aaron Northcraft's start. He made it 4 2/3 innings with three runs, two earned, on five hits. He struck out seven and walked three in the no-decision.

Mississippi got to Suns starter Adam Conley early, scoring three in the first four innings.

In the second, Robby Hefflinger clubbed a line drive singled to center, and Christian Marrero singled to right with two outs. Hefflinger stretched it from first to third, and an errant throw from Keys in right allowed the run to score.

Then in the fourth, a leadoff walk to Jose Martinez set up a Jaime Pedroza RBI double, staking the Braves to a 2-0 lead. A wild pitch moved Pedroza to third, setting up a Barrett Kleinknecht sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

Conley went five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits in the no decision. Mississippi native Collin Cargill picked up the win, his fourth of the year, pitching a scoreless seventh for the Suns. Jaime suffered the loss, his fifth.

Jacksonville started their comeback in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Zack Cox singled and JT Realmuto tripled to put the Suns on the board. The next pitch was wild to score Realmuto and make it 3-2 Braves.

The Suns tacked on an extra run in the eighth, an RBI single from Isaac Galloway. Originally it was ruled a two-run single, but Realmuto missed third base and was called out on an appeal by the Braves.

With Mobile's win over Pensacola, the Braves remain the leaders in the wildcard, and they could clinch a playoff spot as early as Sunday. With a Braves win and a Mobile win over Pensacola, the Braves would lock up their spot in the wildcard.

Game four in Jacksonville and the potential clincher for the Braves begins Sunday at 6:05 PM CT. Right-hander Gus Schlosser (7-5, 2.44) takes on right-hander Bryan Evans (6-5, 3.68) for the Suns.

Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 5:30 PM CT with the Mississippi Braves "Countdown to First Pitch" online at MississippiBraves.com.
