Lemurs Force Three-Way Tie

Little Falls, NJ - The Lemurs put an end to a five-game losing streak Friday night with a 9-4 win at Yogi Berra Stadium over the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League.

In the process, Laredo (51-46) moved into a three-way tie for first in the South Division of the American Association. Amarillo fell at Fargo-Moorhead 4-2 and Grand Prairie was idle. The Lemurs took an early lead and were up 5-0 by the third inning. Laredo was bolstered offensively by Stephen Douglas' 3-for-5, two-RBI night. Douglas also added a home run. Mike Provencher was impressive at the plate, as he went 4-for-4 and scored two runs.

For New Jersey (54-43), Bryan Sabatella and Matt Padgett combined for all four of the team's hits. Padgett drew three walks and was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Laredo reliever Chad Povich posted the win. Povich (3-2) pitched two-thirds of an inning with two strikeouts and one hit allowed. Jackals' starter Jon Lucas took the loss. Lucas (9-5) worked five innings and gave up six runs (two earned) on six hits. He struck out five and walked five.

The Lemurs out-hit the Jackals 12 to 4. New Jersey also committed four errors on the night. With just three games left in the regular season, Laredo is now in a three-way tie for first with Grand Prairie and Amarillo. The Lemurs next game is Saturday night in Quebec, Canada against the Capitales at 5:05 Central Time.
