Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - One night after being shut out, the High Desert Mavericks exacted some revenge, hammering the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to take their final head-to-head meeting of the year, by a score of 14-3 at LoanMart on Thursday night.

Not even a visit from Dodgers' rehabbing slugger Matt Kemp could spark the Quakes, as the Mavs pounded out 14 runs on 15 hits and won the important series-finale, giving them the season-series, 12-11. By winning Thursday's game, High Desert would potentially get home-field advantage next Tuesday night in a one-game playoff, should the two teams finish in a tie for the wild card to end the regular season.

Kemp would record five at-bats on Thursday, batting as the designated hitter in the second spot of the order. On the DL with a left ankle injury suffered on July 21st in Washington, Kemp struggled at the plate, going 0-for-5 with a strikeout, while grounding into a pair of double-plays. The slugger is expected to play center field for the Quakes on Friday and then DH again on Saturday.

The Mavs took advantage of some rough Rancho defense, which committed three errors and led to a couple of unearned runs.

High Desert went scoreless in the first inning, but would go on to score in each of their next seven frames.

Quakes' starter Freddie Cabrera (3-5) got roughed up a bit, as he allowed five runs over just three-plus innings.

Mavs' starter Stephen Landazuri (6-7) was effective over 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits in the win.

Rancho's offense did get a boost from Darnell Sweeney, who had three hits and drove in a run, as well as Casio Grider, who had a pair of knocks and two RBIs.

The Quakes (32-34, 63-73) now lead the Mavs (28-37, 62-73) by just a half-game with four games to play. The Quakes will finish the regular season at home with four games against Lancaster, while the Mavs will host the Lake Elsinore Storm in a five-game series.

On Friday, JonMichael Redding (4-5) will start for the final time in the regular season, while Lancaster will send Brady Rodgers (10-8) to the hill. Friday's game at LoanMart Field, a Family RV $1 Family Feast Night, is SOLD OUT!

Tickets are available to Saturday's Fireworks Spectacular, courtesy of LoanMart, with 1,500 fans taking home a LoanMart Field Replica. Tickets for Saturday's action are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
