August 29, 2013 - Frontier League (FL)
Florence Y'alls News Release

Normal,IL-Florence Freedom third baseman Jacob Tanis broke a 2-2 tie in the 9th inning on a two run single propelling the Freedom(49-40) to a 5-2 win over the Normal CornBelters(42-47) Wednesday night at the Corn Crib.

Kyle Bluestein provided the Freedom a 1-0 lead in the fifth on his solo homerun to right center field. It was Bluestein's second homer of the year.

The CornBelters took the lead in the seventh on a couple of errors by the Freedom. With two outs and Mike Schwartz at second base, Freedom reliever Jordan Conley was pitching against Keoni Manago. Conley quickly got ahead 0-2 in the count and struck him out on the third pitch. The third strike was dropped though by catcher Brian Sheehan. Sheehan then air mailed a throw to first baseman Jeremy Hamilton allowing Schwartz to score to tie the game at 1-1.

After Conley walked Aaron Dudley, Pat McKenna grounded a ball back up the middle which second baseman Bobby Joe Tannehill dove for and stopped from going into the outfield. He threw from the seat of his pants trying to get the force play at second, but a poor throw allowed Manago to score to give the CornBelters a 2-1 lead.

The Freedom tied it in the eighth. With Jeremy Hamilton at third base and Nick Stein at first, Pablo Bermudez lined one over second baseman Santiago Chariono's head scoring Hamilton. Stein was out at second on the fielders choice.

In the ninth, Sheehan singled with one out against Mitch Mormann(4-6). Sheehan would later steal second base. With two outs the CornBelters decided to intentionally walk David Harris. On ball four, Moorman delivered to high as the ball sailed to the backstop advancing Sheehan to third base.

Tanis, the league leader in RBI's then came to the plate. Harris was able to steal second putting two in scoring position. Tanis drove a 1-2 pitch over the second baseman's head scoring Sheehan and Harris giving the Freedom a 4-2 lead. Tanis would later score in the inning on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the ninth, Freedom closer Jorge Marban walked the first two hitters and delivered two three wild pitches putting Manago and Dudley at second and third base. However, Marban buckled down to strike out the next three hitters earning his twenty fourth save of the year.

Conley(1-0) was the winning pitcher out of the Freedom bullpen pitching 1.1 innins allowing three hits on one unearned run.

The Freedom will go for the sweep over Normal on Thursday night. The Freedom will have RHP Brandon Mathes(5-6, 4.60) on the mound. The CornBelters will feature LHP Jacob Liedka(1-1, 3.60). The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 7:45 pm on radio station 1320 AM WCVG and online at gospel1320.com.
