Houston Dynamo FC News Release

Cam Weaver scored two goals as the Houston Dynamo moved to the top of Group 1 in the CONCACAF Champions League with a 2-1 win over Árabe Unido of Panama on Tuesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Dynamo (1-0-1; 4 points) are one point ahead of Árabe Unido (1-1-0; 3 points) after two of four group stage games. W Connection (0-1-1; 1 point) is in third place of the three-team group.

Houston will host W Connection on Sept. 25 at BBVA Compass Stadium before playing its final group stage at Árabe Unido on Oct. 24. Each club will play a total of four group stage games - two home and two away - before the end of October. The group winner will advance to the quarterfinals, set for next March.

Árabe Unido opened the scoring from the penalty spot. Abdiel Arroyo converted the spot kick in the eight minute for a 1-0 lead.

Weaver provided the equalizer 14 minutes later. Left back Corey Ashe sent a pinpoint cross from the left flank to the top of the six-yard box, where Weaver volleyed past Árabe Unido goalkeeper Miguel Lloyd to even the score 1-1.

After a rash of yellow cards - six in the first 27 minutes of the second half - Weaver ensured the Dynamo all three points with his second goal. Brad Davis entered as a substitute in the 66th minute and provided the service on Weaver's goal ten minutes later. Davis lofted a cross toward the back post, where Weaver bravely beat his marker and directed his header off the inside of the near post for the winning goal.

It was Weaver's fourth goal in a month after he scored twice in MLS play.

It was also Weaver's third career goal against Árabe Unido. He also scored against the Panama club on Sept. 22, 2009, with Ashe also assisting on the goal.

Weaver now has five international goals in his Dynamo career and is tied with Dwayne De Rosario for third on the franchise list. Brian Ching and Stuart Holden are tied for the most with six.

It was Ashe's seventh career international assist to move to first on the club list, passing Brian Ching and Brad Davis (6 each). It was also Ashe's 22nd career assist in all competitions to pass De Rosario for fourth on the franchise list.

Ashe's night of milestones included his 163rd career start in all competitions with the Dynamo. He passed Ching and tied Brian Mullan for fifth on the club list. Ashe also played 90 minutes to reach 15,037 career minutes in all competitions, passing Ching (14,960) for fourth on the franchise chart.

Finally, it was Ashe's 30th career international game to pass Mullan for second on the club list. Ching is the franchise leader with 32 games.

Tally Hall made his 122nd career appearance in all competitions with Houston to tie Holden for 12th on the franchise list.

Bobby Boswell made his 28th international appearance with the Dynamo to pass Wade Barrett for fourth on the club list. It was also Boswell's 23rd career international start to pass Ching and tie Ricardo Clark for third.

It was Davis' sixth assist in international competition with Houston. He is tied with Ching for second on the club list, trailing Ashe (7).

The Dynamo resume MLS play on Sunday with an important road game against the Chicago Fire (2 p.m. CT kickoff). The club will remain in the Midwest for a game on Wednesday, Sept. 4 against the Columbus Crew.
