August 27, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves needed 10 innings on Tuesday night and they took down the Akron Aeros 5-4 at Canal Park.

Erie jumped ahead for the second straight day in the top of the first inning. Jamie Johnson and Brandon Douglas each singled off of Akron starter Toru Murata. With one out, Ramon Cabrera singled to the opposite-field, scoring Johnson for a 1-0 lead.

In the second, the SeaWolves added to their lead. Wade Gaynor walked with one out but was erased at second on a Marcus Lemon fielder's choice. James Robbins singled to left putting a pair on for Johnson. Johnson unloaded on a Murata pitch and hammered a three-run home run into the bleachers in right for a 4-0 lead. The home run for Johnson was his second of the year.

The Aeros got on the board in the last of the fourth against Erie starter Ramon Garcia when Jesus Aguilar belted a two-out, solo home run to left-center making it 4-1.

Erie held the lead until the seventh inning. Aguilar singled with one out and moved to second on an Adam Abraham walk. Matt Lawson doubled home Aguilar making it 4-2. The knock for Lawson was his seventh of the series. The 'Wolves went to the bullpen and summoned Will Startup. Startup induced a fly out off the bat of Giovanny Urshela for the second out but surrendered a two-out, two-run Chris Wallace single tying the game.

The game remained tied until the top of the 10th. With one out James McCann hustled his way to a double, putting a go-ahead run in scoring position. Gaynor followed with an RBI single up the middle, plating McCann for a 5-4 lead.

Justin Souza worked a perfect bottom of the 10th inning to preserve the win, collecting his 18th save.

Tyler Stohr (3-0) worked a scoreless ninth inning, earning the win.

Garcia took a no-decision allowing four runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

The SeaWolves magic number to clinch their first playoff spot since 2007 is down to three games over both Bowie and Richmond. Any combination of three wins, and or losses by both the Baysox and Flying Squirrles puts the SeaWolves in the playoffs.

The SeaWolves and Aeros meet in the third game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Warwick Saupold (7-5, 3.37 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Brett Brach (8-9, 5.12 ERA).
