Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, MASS. - A bases loaded walk to Carlos Asuaje gave the Lowell Spinners a 3-2 lead and Aaron King followed with a bases clearing double to give the team breathing room as the Spinners snapped a four-game losing skid Tuesday night at LeLacheur Park with a win over the Aberdeen IronBirds, 8-2.
Aberdeen (34-30) got on the board first in the fourth inning after a one-out single by Trey Mancini was followed by a towering home run by Connor Bierfeldt over the video board in left-centerfield, his second in as many nights, to give the IronBirds a 2-0 lead.
Lowell (36-29) cut the lead in half in the fifth inning when Danny Bethea hit a leadoff home run on the first pitch of the inning, a fast flying line drive off the scoreboard in left field.
The Spinners took the lead in the sixth inning with a five run inning that would be more than enough for Jonathan Aro. Deiner Lopez led off the inning with a single up the middle. A one-out walk by Jake Romanski brought on a pitching change and a fielding error by Jared Breen on a hot shot by Manuel Margot brought home Lopez to tie the game at two. After a walk to Kevin Mager to load the bases, Bethea grounded into a force out at the plate bringing up Asuaje with the bases loaded for the second straight night. Asuaje worked a walk, bringing in Margot to give the Spinners a lead. King then cleared the bases, giving Lowell a comfortable 6-2 lead.
The Spinners would add a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning on a fielder's choice from Lopez and a bases loaded walk from Allday for what would hold as an 8-2 final.
Jamie Callahan started for the Spinners, allowing two runs on three hits over his five innings of work. Callahan struck out three and did not walk a batter. Jonathan Aro (5-2, 1.94) followed with four innings of shutout relief, allowing just two hits while walking one, striking out four.
The eight run outburst came on just five hits, as Romanski extended his modest hitting streak to four games with a double while Margot saw his streak snapped at eight. Carlos Asuaje extended his on-base streak at LeLacheur Park to a New York-Penn League best 19 games with his walk.
The two teams conclude the three-game series Wednesday night at LeLacheur Park with Daniel McGrath on the mound for the Spinners. Reggy "The Purple Party" Dude makes a special appearance for a 7:05 first pitch.
