LAST GAME: The Bowie Baysox pounded the B-Mets, 11-0 in the series opener last night at Prince George's Stadium. Noah Syndergaard allowed all 11 runs to score in the first three innings in the blowout loss. The Baysox scored four runs in the first, four more in the second, and three more in the third against the righty. In the process, they blasted three home runs, including a back-to-back effort from Buck Britton and Caleb Joseph. Offensively, Binghamton was shut down by Eduardo Rodriguez The lefty tossed eight shutout innings, and only gave up two singles. Tim Bascom capped the night with a perfect ninth.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Logan Verrett makes his 23rd start of the season for the B-Mets and third against Bowie. He beat the Baysox in his last start on August 21. The righty allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings for his 11th win. Verrett will be limited to five frames on the hill due to an innings cap placed on the righty. He is tied for the league lead with 11 victories. In 136.0 innings, he has 125 strikeouts and has held opponents to a .250 batting average against. He was drafted by the Mets in the third round of the 2011 draft out of Baylor University.
BOWIE STARTER: RHP Tyler Wilson makes his 15th start of the season for the Baysox, and his third against the B-Mets. He was tagged with the loss in his last start against Binghamton after allowing five runs in five innings. He also pitched against them on June 14, and earned the win. Wilson has lost each of his last two starts, and does not have a win since August 3th against Portland. In 79.0 innings pitched, he has 60 strikeouts and has posted a .233 batting average against. He started the 2013 campaign with Frederick (High-A), and went 1-1 with a 4.48 ERA in 11 starts. He was drafted by the Orioles in the 10th round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Virginia.
SHUTOUT: Last night was Binghamton's seventh shutout loss of the season, and first since July 28 vs. Trenton. This was the worst shutout loss since an 11-0 loss suffered on May 5, 2008 against the Reading Phillies. Binghamton is tied for third in the league with 12 shutouts.
ONE BRIGHT SPOT: After Noah Syndergaard allowed 11 runs in three innings, the B-Met bullpen combined for five shutout innings. Armando Rodriguez threw three innings, and Ryan Fraser and Jeff Walters threw one inning each. Collectively, they only allowed one hit.
WELCOME BACK, JACK: LHP Jack Leathersich rejoins Binghamton after going 2-0 with a 6.00 ERA with Las Vegas (AAA). The lefty went 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA with the B-Mets before his promotion. In 56.1 combined innings, he has 99 strikeouts.
POWER OUTAGE: Through the first five games of this roadtrip, Binghamton has not hit any home runs. Of their 30 hits, only three of them have gone for extra bases. In the month of August, Binghamton is hitting .221 as a team. That mark is 20 points less than the next lowest team (Trenton: .241)
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: LHP Darin Gorski has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 19-25. Gorski went 1-0 and allowed just three earned runs over 14.2 innings in a pair of starts during the stretch. He struck out ten and held the Bowie Baysox and Akron Aeros to a .180 batting average.
PITCHING NUMBERS: Despite allowing 11 runs in last night's loss, Binghamton still has the best team ERA in August (2.82). The second-best mark is Trenton, who has posted a 3.20 ERA. Monday was the first time Binghamton has given up double-figure runs since July 7th at New Hampshire.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton continues their four-game series against the Baysox on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. Binghamton will send LHP Mark Cohoon to the mound against RHP Mike Wright for the Baysox.
