AquaSox Win in 12 to Complete Sweep of Doubleheader

PASCO, Wash. - Justin Seager's third hit Monday proved to be the difference in the ballgame as he drove in Ian Miller with the go-ahead run in the 12th inning before the 'Sox exploded for five more runs to beat the Tri-City Dust Devils 7-1 in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Gesa Stadium. The 'Sox swept the series with Tri-City, after winning the first game Monday in seven innings. The Frogs held the Dust Devils to just two runs over 28 innings of baseball in the series.
The game was tied at 1-1 after two innings, but neither team was able to score again until the 12th. Miller reached on an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error by Alex San Juan. Jack Reinheimer singled to put runners at the corners and Austin Wilson drew a walk with one out to load the bases for Seager. The Frogs' third baseman lined an RBI single to center to put Everett up 2-1. Carlton Tanabe followed with another RBI single and James Zamarripa drew a bases-loaded walk before Reggie Lawson clubbed a two-run double that made it 6-1. Bryan Brito added a run-scoring single to complete the final tally of 7-1.
Reinheimer produced a run in the first, doubling with one out and stealing third base before scoring on a sac fly by Chantz Mack, newly returned from a short stint with Double-A Jackson.
Tri-City knotted the score at 1-1 in the second. With one out, San Juan hit a sac fly to left that brought home Patrick Hutcheson.
That would be all until the 12th as both starters settled in. The AquaSox' Thyago Vieira had a second straight quality outing, though he did not factor into the decision. The Brazilian righty threw five innings, allowing just one run on four hits. He walked only one and struck out four. The Dust Devils' Ryan Warner was even more impressive. He hurled seven innings, also allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven. Richard White (3-2) earned the win for Everett after throwing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, retiring all four hitters he faced. Shawn Stuart (3-2) was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs in a third of an inning.
The AquaSox had 14 hits, but couldn't get the big hit with runners in scoring position until the 12th. Reinheimer finished 4-6. Seager was 3-6, and is hitting .348 over his last 10 games with a six-game hit streak. Wilson saw his eight-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-4 night.
The 'Sox also took game one of the doubleheader, 4-0, behind five shutout innings from Nate Koneski (2-1). Making his second straight start in the rotation, the lefty was impressive again, limiting Tri-City to just two hits. The Frogs staked him to a 3-0 lead before he took the mound with a big first inning against Johendi Jiminian (3-4). Michael Faulkner and Seager notched back-to-back singles and Jiminian hit Kyle Petty with a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Tanabe then delivered a bases-clearing triple to center field to put the 'Sox up 3-0.
The Frogs added a run in the sixth when Wilson crushed a leadoff triple off Jiminian and Petty followed with a double. Tyler Wright and Aaron Brooks each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the ballgame. Wright lowered his ERA to a team-best 1.82.
Everett outscored Tri-City 16-2 in the series and completed their second road sweep of the Dust Devils this year. The Frogs finished the season 10-2 against Tri-City, and have posted a 23-7 mark against the North Division, with six games left against Spokane.
The AquaSox moved to 18-14 in the second half and 41-29 overall. The Frogs are riding a seven-game winning streak, their second streak of that length this season. They won seven in a row from June 23rd-29th. The 'Sox also moved past Salem-Keizer for the best overall record in the NWL.
Tri-City has dropped four straight and, at 12-20 and 31-39, is all but eliminated from postseason contention as they trail Everett by six games in the second half standings and Vancouver by five games in the overall standings with just six games to play. The Frogs are off tomorrow before heading to Spokane Wednesday for the first of six games in a pair of home-and-home series that will determine the Indians' playoff fate. Spokane trails the Frogs by three games in the second half and is one game behind Vancouver in the overall standings.
