D-Braves Drop Series Opener to Cards

Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, Va. - Danville came into Sunday's matchup with the Johnson City Cardinals fresh off a series win against the Greeneville Astros. The Cardinals pitching staff stifled the D-Braves bats allowing a single run in the first before blanking them the rest of the way and earning a 4-1 victory.

Danville jumped out of the gate early with a run in the very first inning on Victor Caratini's league leading 22nd double of the season to plate Cody Livesay from second. With the double, Caratini sits just four two-baggers behind Eric Campbell for the single season record in D-Braves history.

Outside of the first, the Braves recorded just three hits as a team as the combination of Brandon Lee, Kyle Grana, and Fernando Baez carved up the D-Braves lineup.

The D-Braves pitching staff was excellent and was hurt in the fifth by a pair of errors that allowed Johnson City to extend their lead out to 4-1 which would be enough to hold on to the victory.

Danville's pitchers, for the majority of the game, were excellent allowing just seven hits and as a staff they sat down 13 batters via strike three. Tyler Vail was excellent in his Appy League debut with two scoreless innings and he struck out five batters.

The same two teams will face off against each other on Monday with the game starting at 7:00 p.m. The game has Michael Flores throwing for Danville against Will Anderson for Johnson City. The game will be the final Dollar Dog Monday at the field presented by Kunzler.
