Diablos Close out Era Tonight

August 25, 2013 - American Association (AA)
El Paso Diablos News Release

EL PASO, TX - Millions of fans have walked through our gates, both at Dudley Field and Cohen Stadium, and tonight we say goodbye. This afternoon's Diablo home game will mark the end our 2013 season, and will close out El Paso's long standing and historic team. With roots going back to the 1890s, the Diablos have gone by different names, used various logos, housed countless players, and have created memories for generations of fans. But its one constant has been its standing as El Paso's baseball club. Like the game itself, nothing stays the same. The same lineup will play one way today, and another way tomorrow. The El Paso Diablos have been honored and humbled to offer El Pasoans, and their neighbors, America's pastime over these many years. You will never know what it has meant to our organization; both past and present. Thank you for welcoming our family into yours. Former major league pitcher, Jim Bouton once said, "A ballplayer spends a good piece of his life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time." We couldn't agree more.

Tonight's game promotions will include our traditional Quartermania, $0.25 hot dogs, as well as Diablo giveaways. We've been cleaning house, and have some items to get rid of! Diablo merchandise, Cohen Stadium memorabilia, sponsor giveaways, posters, media guides, and more will be up for grabs. One item per ticket holder.

In addition to giveaways, we will be raffling off some bigger items every half inning. See our raffle table at tomorrow's game to enter to win. Items include autographed baseballs, broken bats, Diablo banners, player posters, a Diablo jersey, a Diablo bobble head, and even a Cohen Stadium bathroom sign! $5 enters you to win. Cash only please. Items and winners chosen at random. Buy as many tickets as you'd like!

Once this season ends, our jerseys have done their job. We will be holding a silent auction during the game, concluding at the end of the 6th inning, for the last Diablo jerseys! We will be auctioning both our home (black) and away (red) jerseys. Minimum bid is $50. Bids in $5 increments. Cash only! The team will be hitting the road to close the season, but the jerseys will return to El Paso washed and ready for their new owners. Don't miss your opportunity to own these historic jerseys!

With a history as big as ours, we'll be hosting an official Diablo Auction later this week. We have championship trophies, old team photos, Sun Kings memorabilia, Dudley's last home plate, Cohen's last home plate and bases, Cohen's original layout plan, Diablo pitchfork pennants, championship flags, field equipment, official city proclamations, specialty and autographed jerseys, framed media articles, framed artwork, neon signs, and more. More details coming this week!

The last Diablo team will take a team photo on Cohen's field tomorrow before the game at 5:30 pm. Arrive early and with your cameras in hand!

Speaking of photos, we want to see our fans' memories with the Diablos. Send us your photos! Here at Cohen Stadium, at Dudley Field, wherever! Email your photos to info@diablos.com, tweet them to @epdiablos, or post them on our Facebook Timeline (El Paso Diablos/Cohen Stadium). We'll be retweeting, sharing, and displaying photos on our jumbotron tonight!

Let's say goodbye to the Diablos with a great crowd! Game time is slated for 6:05 pm. Gates open at 5:00 pm, and pre-game festivities begin at 5:30 pm. For more information, please visit diablos.com or call (915)755-2000.
