August 23, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Wild Card leading Wings continue their season-long homestand on Friday night (7:15 p.m.) with game two of a four-game set against the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) at Frontier Field... After dropping the opener on Thursday, the Wings have fallen back into 2nd place (0.5 GB) in the IL North for the first time since July 26... Still, the Wings have started 3-2 on their 10-game homestand, are 18-10 in their last 28 affairs, 31-16 since July 2 and own the best record in the league since May 27 with a 52-31 (.627) mark (Tied with DUR) -- 9 more wins than any other team during that span (LHV, 43-39)... Meanwhile, the Indians, who own the 2nd-best overall record in the IL, will have a chance to clinch the South division while in town this weekend as their magic number over COL shrunk to 3 after Thursday's 6-1 win... Still, Indianapolis is just 9-11 in August.

TONIGHT'S PROBABLES:

¨DIAMOND: Is 6-5, 3.74 ERA (36 ER/86.2 IP) in 15 career GS at home... Just 4-10, 5.52 ERA (56 ER/91.1 IP) in 17 road GS during Wings career... Is 6-1, 2.63 ERA (16 ER/54.2 IP) over last 9 AAA starts dating back to last season (Allowed 7 runs in lone loss to BUF on 4/29/12).

¨CUMPTON: Suffered the loss vs ROC on 6/26 (5.0 ip, 8 h, 6 r, 5 er, 2 bb, 6 k)... Has won two straight starts (2.77 ERA; 4 ER/13.0 IP) after not earning a win over his previous 9 starts (0-5, 4.30 ERA) dating back to May 29.

WITH A WIN TODAY, THE WINGS...:

¨Will top their win total from the 2012 season and assure themselves of a winning season for the first time since 2008 (74-70).

¨Will avoid matching a season-high, 3-game home losing streak... The Wings haven't lost 3 in a row at home since 5/13-5/15.

¨Will avoid losing three straight games for the first time since 8/8-8/10 and for just the 2nd time since July 2.

MAGIC NUMBER: The Red Wings magic number to clinch the Wild Card remains at 9 games over Norfolk after the Wings loss and the Tides 3-2 walk-off win over Durham on Thursday. Any combination of Wings wins and Tides losses that equal 9 will clinch a playoff spot for Rochester for the first time since 2006. The Wings own the season series tiebreaker over Norfolk (6-2) if they were to finish with the same record... Norfolk's remaining schedule is as follows: 1 vs. DUR; 2 @ DUR; 2 @ GWN; 3 @ CHA; 3 vs. DUR

¨Pawtucket's remaining schedule is as follows: 2 @ SWB; 3 vs. SWB; 4 vs. SYR; 2 @ LHV

THE FRIENDLY CONFINES OF FRONTIER FIELD: With the Wings 6-1 loss to IND in the opener, the Wings have now dropped back-to-back games at home for the first time since June 10-11 vs TOL... Still, Rochester is an impressive 22-7 at Frontier Field since June 13 and 38-25 (.603) overall on the season -- the 2nd-best home winning % in the IL (DUR .676)... Going back further, the Wings are 31-12 at home since May 16... Prior to going 39-33 at home last season, the Wings were just 94-122 (.435) in ROC from 2009-2011.

ERRORS & UNEARNED RUNS: The Wings committed 3 more errors on Thursday and have now made 12 errors over their last 6 games and 17 over their last 11 contests... Over the previous 29 games, the Wings committed just 9 errors including a season-high, 12-game, 114-inning stretch of errorless baseball from 7/21-8/1 ... The recent string of errors has dropped the Wings from the top spot in league fielding percentage to a tie for 2nd (.982) behind Pawtucket (.983)... With another four unearned runs allowed on Thursday, Rochester has now yielded 13 unearned runs over the last 8 games and allowing only 7 over their previous 57 games.

However, if you take out Luis Perdomo's outings (16.88 ERA; 10 ER in 5.1 IP over last 5G), the bullpen's ERA is just 2.09 (13 ER/56.0 IP) over the last 18 G (Perdomo on DL with rt. calf strain).

With ROC, Ibarra has allowed just 5 H (.111 avg) & 7 BB over 14.1 scoreless ip (11 G) -- the 3rd longest streak by a Wings pitcher this season and longest by a reliever.

¨RHP A.J Achter has posted a 0.95 ERA (2 ER/19.0 IP) over his last 10 outings after allowing four runs in his AAA debut on 7/7 vs PAW

FOR STARTERS: The Wings rotation is 5-3 with a 2.27 ERA (18 ER/71.1 IP) over their last 11 games with six quality starts... One trip through the rotation on this homestand, Wings starters have factored in every decision going 3-2 with a 1.14 ERA (4 ER/31.2 IP).
