Phantoms Preseason Away Game Announced

The Adirondack Phantoms have announced an addition to the preseason schedule with an away game on Sunday, September 29 at the Utica Comets. The 4:00 p.m. game will take place at the John F. Kennedy Civic Arena in Rome, N.Y. approximately 17 miles northwest of Utica.
Utica is a new entry in the American Hockey League and are affiliated with the Vancouver Canucks. They will play their regular season home games at the Memorial Auditorium in Utica but the building is currently undergoing renovations.
This will be Adirondack's second game of the preseason. The Phantoms have already announced a home preseason game on Saturday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. vs. the Albany Devils at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Utica has not had an AHL team since the Utica Devils played there from 1987-1993. The city has not had a professional team since 2001 with the Mohawk Valley Prowlers of the United Hockey League.
The upcoming preseason game on September 29 will represent the first meeting between AHL teams from Glens Falls and Utica since February 26, 1993 when the Adirondack Red Wings defeated the Utica Devils 7-3 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The last time Adirondack traveled to the Utica area for an AHL game was February 5, 1993 with the Red Wings prevailing 2-1.
The most recent encounter for any professional teams from Glens Falls and Utica to play each other was February 16, 2001 in the United Hockey League with the Adirondack IceHawks hosting the Mohawk Valley Prowlers.
John F. Kennedy Civic Arena in Rome was constructed in 1963 and renovated in 2008. The building has a seating capacity of about 1,000.
The Phantoms home opener for the regular season will be Saturday, October 12.
