Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes snapped their eight-game losing streak, defeating the Nashville Sounds 5-3, Wednesday Night at Isotopes Park. Drew Butera went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBI. The Topes backstop and centerfielder Matt Angle were the only two batters in the lineup with multiple hits in the contest.

Nashville struck early, scoring in the first frame. Kentrail Davis led off with a triple and was driven in by the next batter, Eugencio Velez, on a sacrifice fly.

The Isotopes claimed the lead in the second with two outs. Alex Castellanos was hit by a pitch and Brian Barden singled to center before Drew Butera knocked a triple to right, putting Albuquerque up 2-1. It was the Isotopes first extra-base hit since hitting two doubles on August 18.

Albuquerque added three more in the third, again with two down. Elian Herrera double and Scott Van Slyke walked leading up to a Matt Angle RBI double. Angle and Van Slyke then came around to score on a two-run single up the middle by Alex Castellanos.

Magill (5-1, 3.16) would allow an RBI single and an RBI double in the fourth and fifth, respectively. The righty tossed six innings of three-run ball, allowing just one walk and striking out nine, earning the win.

Onelki Garcia followed with two scoreless frames, his only blemish was a hit batter in the seventh. The southpaw struck out five of the seven batters he faced and lowered his ERA from 2.70 to 1.69. Javy Guerra picked up his ninth save in ten chances this season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Dee Gordon snapped his team season-high, 20-game hitting streak, going 0-for-4 with a walk. Gordon was one hit away from tying the franchise record of a hit in 21 straight games set by Jerry Sands last season.

Jimmy Nelson threw six innings, surrendering five runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out seven suffering the loss.

The Topes continue their five-game series with Nashville during their final regular season, nine-game homestand. Red Patterson starts for Albuquerque against lefty Zach Kroenke. All the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call. Coverage begins at 6 pm Mountain Time and first pitch is at 6:35.
