Buffalo Bisons News Release
Today's Game
Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Pawtucket Red Sox in the third game of a four-game set at McCoy Stadium (7:05 p.m.). Both teams picked up a win in the series this weekend. The Bisons have won nine of 14 since August 6 and remain an IL-best 35-28 on the road this year.
Playoff Push
Pawtucket's 3-1 win on Sunday gave them sole possession of the top spot in the IL Wild Card race. Norfolk remains between the PawSox and the Herd at a game back after ta loss to Columbus yesterday. Buffalo sits 1.5 games back in the Wild Card and 3.5 games behind Rochester in the IL North division.
On the Hill
RHP KYLE DRABEK will make his first start as a Bisons. The righty joined the Herd last week and earned the win his debut with 3.0 innings of hitless relief on August 14 against Rochester. Drabek missed nearly a year of action after having Tommy John' surgery on June 19, 2012. He was 4-7 with a 4.67 ERA in 13 starts for Toronto last year.
Hit Streak
INF ANDY LaROCHE'S hit streak reached 10 games yesterday. Since August 8, the veteran has averaged .368 (14-38) with five doubles and six RBI. He is the 5th Bisons player this season to have a double-digit game hit streak. The Herd's season high is 11 from OF Kevin Pillar.
Designated Hitter
OF RICARDO NANITA has responded to being the club's primary designated hitter. The veteran has started at DH in each of the Bisons last five games and has a hit in every contest. Since August 14, Nanita has averaged .381 (8-21) with three doubles and six runs scored.
First Impression
OF BRAD GLENN has a hit in each of his first four games with the Bisons. Glenn has averaged .357 (5-14) with a double, four RBI and three walks. Glenn had 47 extra-base hits, including 17 home runs, in 111 games with Double-A New Hampshire to begin the season.
Bisons Bits
The Bisons have an IL North-best 37-28 divisional record...C A.J. JIMENEZ picked up his first caught-stealing in his Triple-A debut yesterday. Jimenez threw out 47.6% (11 of 21) of would-be base stealers with Double-A New Hampshire...The Bisons 114 stolen bases are the most they've had since stealing the same out of bags in 2004.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (57-67) lost to the Rays, 2-1, in 10 innings last night. Toronto's lone run was scored on the 31st home run from INF EDWIN ENCARNACION. The Blue Jays are off today and will face the Yankees on Tuesday.
