August 19, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: The first-place Red Wings continue their season-long 10-game homestand on Monday night (7:05 p.m.) with game three of a four-game set against the Louisville Bats (Reds) at Frontier Field... After starting the homestand 2-0, Rochester is now 17-8 in their last 25 games, have won 30 of 44 and own the best record in the IL since May 27 with a 51-29 (.638) mark... Meanwhile, the Bats, once a viable contender for the IL Wild Card spot, saw their losing streak extend to a tied for franchise record 11 games after Logan Darnell and Michael Tonkin blanked the Bats, 1-0, on Sunday... The Bats last win came on 8/6 vs Indianapolis.

FOR STARTERS:

¨Hendriks: Is 1-2, 6.16 ERA (21 ER/30.2 IP) over last 5 GS after posting a 1.93 ERA over prev. 4 GS

¨Rogers: Is 0-2, 8.44 ERA (10 ER/10.2 IP) over last 2 GS after going 3-0, 0.38 ERA (ER/24.0 IP) over prev. 4 GS

THE FRIENDLY CONFINES OF FRONTIER FIELD: The Wings 1-0 blanking of the Bats on Sunday was their 9th win in their last 10 home games as Rochester improved to 21-5 at Frontier Field since June 13 and 37-23 (.617) overall on the season -- the 2nd-best home winning % in the IL (DUR .667)... Going back further, the Wings are 30-10 at home since May 16 and haven't lost back-to-back games at Frontier Field since June 10-11 vs TOL - a span of 26 home games... The Wings were just 7-13 in their first 20 games of the season at Frontier Field and on 3 separate occasions lost 3 in a row at home... Prior to going 39-33 at home last season, the Wings were just 94-122 (.435) in Rochester from 2009-2011.

LIGHTS OUT!: Wings reliever Michael Tonkin nailed down his team-leading 11th save of the season on Sunday with a perfect 9th inning... In his 11 save chances this season with Rochester, Tonkin hasn't allowed a run in 13.2 innings while yielding just five hits (.111 avg against; 5-for-45) and one walk with 15 strikeouts... RHP Shairon Martis has been almost as good as Tonkin in save chances this season, going 10-for-11 is save opps. while posting a 1.42 ERA (3 ER/19.0 IP) with 9 hits, 3 walks and 18 strikeouts.

CLOSING TIME: The Wings bullpen has now converted 27 of their last 28 save opportunities since the beginning of June after going just 15-for-26 in save chances the first two months of the season... The only blown save over that span came from LHP Blake Martin on 7/12 @ PAW... The Wings, who led the league with 48 SV a season ago, currently rank first in the IL with 42 saves this season despite the fact no Wings pitcher ranks in the top 10 in the IL in saves.

¨On 8/6, A.J.Achter became the 12th different Wings pitcher to record a save this season setting a Wings franchise record!

GETTING RELIEF: Over the last 15 games, the Wings bullpen has posted a 3.40 ERA (20 ER/53.0 IP) while allowing just one run (unearned) over the last 4 games (10.0 ip, 6h, 0 bb, 11k)... However, if you take out Luis Perdomo's outings (16.88 ERA; 10 ER in 5.1 IP over last 5G), the bullpen's ERA is just 1.89 (10 ER/47.2 IP) over that span.

¨Since June 24, RHP Shairon Martis has allowed just 4 R in 29.2 IP (1.21 ERA) w/ 7 SV over 16 appearances... Opponents are hitting just .130 (13-100) off him w/ 7 BB & 25 SO over that span.

¨LHP Edgar Ibarra has thrown 29.1 consecutive innings between NBR & ROC (12.1 IP) w/o allowing an ER -- a span of 25 G over which he has allowed just 1 R on 12 H and 7 BB w/ 27 SO... With ROC, Ibarra has allowed just 4 H (.103 avg) & 6 BB over 12.1 scoreless ip (11 G)

CC KEEPS RAKING: Red Wings 1B/OF Chris Colabello has gone 3-for-8 over his first two games back with the Red Wings after being optioned on Friday from Minnesota where he was hitting .360 (9-25) with a 2B, 2 HR, 3 RBI and 7 BB in his last 8 games... The Wings all-star slugger has extended his home on-base streak at Frontier Field to 27 games over which he has hit .416 (42-101) w/ 12 2B, 6 HR and 23 RBI... He also extended his hitting streak at Triple-A to 9 G (14-38; 3HR, 3 2B, 7 R, 9 RBI) -- his 4th, 9-plus game hitting streak this year. His 16-gamer from 5/9-6/5 is the longest by a Wing since Danny Valencia's 20-G streak 4/24-5/16/10.

BACK IN COMMAND: After an uncharacteristic 7-game stretch (8/3-8/9) in which Red Wings pitchers walked 40 batters (5.7 BB/G), Wings hurlers have regained command walking just 12 hitters over the last 8 games (1.5 BB/G)... The Wings have walked the least amount of hitters in the IL this season (396; 3.05 BB/G) while drawing the 2nd-most walks in the league (519; 3.99 BB/G).

MORE ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:

¨The Wings notched their 9th shutout of the season on Sunday -- T-4th in the IL -- and 2nd in a week (blanked NOR 5-0 last Sunday) after going over five weeks without recording one... The Wings last 1-0 win came on July 5 vs Pawtucket in 10 innings.

¨Of the 9 shutouts this season, Sundayfs catcher Eric Fryer has been behind the plate for 5 of them. The Wings improved to 31-19 with Fryer as the starting backstop... Fryer threw out the ILfs leading base stealer, Billy Hamilton, trying to swipe 2nd in the 6th inning.

¨LHP Logan Darnell allowed just five hits (all singles) and a walk while striking out six over his 99-pitch performance... He allowed just one runner to reach second base and no Bats player reached as far as third all game long.
