Grand Chute, WI- The Peoria Chiefs bounced back from a 15-inning loss on Thursday to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7-2 Friday night and win the three-game series. The victory caps a six-game road trip with the Chiefs tied for the Wild Card at 27-26 in the second half and 65-55 overall.
Wisconsin grabbed the first run of the game against Brad Watson in the second inning. Parker Berberet led off with a single to center and moved to second on a groundout to first. With Berberet on third and two down, Tyler Roberts doubled to the wall in right field to put Wisconsin on top 1-0.
An inning later, the Rattlers added on. Michael Reed was hit by a pitch in the left arm and moved to second on a wild pitch. Mike Garza doubled to the wall in left-center to score reed for a 2-0 Rattlers lead before Watson escaped the inning.
Peoria rallied in the fifth against Tyler Wagner and took advantage of a fortunate bounce. Juan Herrera led off with a single to right and moved to third when a grounder by Jonathan Keener bounced over the head of Wisconsin's shortstop. Herrera was out at the plate on a comebacker by Charlie Tilson but stayed in the rundown long enough to put runners at second and third with one out. Ildemaro Vargas beat out an infield single as Keener scored and Tilson moved to third. Breyvic Valera tied the game with another infield single over the pitcher's head as Tilson scored to tie the game. Wagner struck out the next two Chiefs to send the game to the bottom of the fifth tied 2-2.
The game was still tied in the seventh when Harvey Martin took over for Wagner out of Wisconsin's bullpen. After a double play, Valera doubled to left and scored on a single by Jeremy Schaffer to put the Chiefs up 3-2. Jordan Walton made it 4-2 with a double to right and Trevor Martin's triple to center made it 5-2. Nick Martini gave the Chiefs their third straight extra-base hit and fourth of the inning as he doubled home Martin for a 6-2 lead.
Peoria added on in the eighth against Martin with another extra-base hit. Keener led off with a single and was out at second on a fielders' choice that put Tilson at first base. Tilson came all the way around to score for a 7-2 lead as Vargas tripled into the right-field corner. With two down, Schaffer drew a walk but lefty Taylor Wall came out of the bullpen and got out of the inning.
Watson (3-5) allowed two runs on six hits over six innings to pick up the win, his first since July 14. Watson struck out seven, hit one and did not issue a walk. Brady Adamek earned his first save in a Chiefs uniform with three innings of shutout baseball. He did not allow a hit and struck out three while walking one and hitting two.
