Hot Rods Sweep TinCaps on Harrison's Shutout Start
August 16, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Six and a third scoreless innings from Jordan Harrison started a 4-0 shutout win for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (70-52, 32-22) over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (62-60, 19-34) at Parkview Field on Friday. Marty Gantt collected a pair of RBI doubles to pace the Hot Rods offense to a sweep of the TinCaps. Gantt drove in the winning run during all three wins at Fort Wayne.
Harrison battled with TinCaps starter Joe Ross through six shutout innings. The Hot Rods left the bases loaded in the third inning and stranded a pair of leadoff runners in the fifth. Harrison allowed back-to-back singles in the first inning and left those runners aboard in the biggest scoring threat that he faced. The Tincaps could not even touch Harrison for a hit after the end of the second.
Gantt put Bowling Green ahead in the seventh inning. Trevor Gott garnered a strikeout and allowed a single to Leonardo Reginatto before facing Gantt. On a 2-2 pitch, Gantt split the right-center field gap with a double that scored Reginatto for the first run of the game. Harrison started the bottom half of the inning with a strikeout before Stone Speer entered to finish a 1-2-3 frame.
A ninth-inning rally provided breathing room for the Hot Rods at the end of the game. Justin O'Conner opened the top of the ninth with a solo home run to left field for a 2-0 lead. Following a Leonardo Reginatto walk, Gantt sent Reginatto in with a double to left field. Gantt stole third base on prior to advancing home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Toles. Speer finished the contest for his second save in as many tries to cap the shutout and the sweep.
Earlier in the contest, Toles hit a single to extend his franchise-best on-base streak to 31 consecutive games played. Reginatto and Gantt each finished the series with multi-hit efforts in the finale. Harrison's appearance now gives the southpaw a 13.1 consecutive scoreless innings streak.
The final four games of Bowling Green's ten-game road trip will take place in South Bend, IN. The South Bend Silver Hawks host the opener against the Hot Rods on Saturday at 6:05 PM CDT with Bowling Green RHP Austin Pruitt (0-2, 1.76) facing South Bend RHP Jesse Darrah (10-8, 4.07). Chris Kleinhans-Schulz will begin the radio coverage at 5:35 PM CDT on the Forever Communications Pregame Show on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com).
