Seattle Sounders FC News Release
RENTON, Wash. - Major League Soccer and Seattle Sounders FC announced Lamar Neagle has been selected as the MLS W.O.R.K.S. "Humanitarian of the Month" for August. The award recognizes Neagle's charitable activities, including work with America SCORES Seattle and the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County.
Neagle, 26, also started his own charitable program, The Neagle Foundation, with the mission to provide support to youth through athletics and academics while building stronger families and communities throughout the Seattle area.
Neagle has participated in more than 15 community activities this season. He consistently works with America SCORES Seattle, attending meetings, donating soccer clinics and helped to raise awareness for their 60-60-60 campaign. He also set up a meeting with SCORES and Russell Investment Group representatives on his own.
A member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County as a youth, Neagle has returned the service, appearing at the Renton/Skyway Boys & Girls Club as well as the annual breakfast. He has also participated in events at Thomas Jefferson High School - his alma mater - and spent time with service men and women at Joint Base Lewis McChord.
Among other activities that Neagle has participated in includes the United Way of King County All-Star Softball Classic for homeless youth and the Sounders FC International Family Festival.
Neagle is the eighth Sounders FC player to earn MLS Humanitarian of the Month honors. Taylor Graham was the club's first honoree in 2009. Sanna Nyassi and James Riley were recognized in 2010 and Fredy Montero was honored in 2011. In 2012, David Estrada, Roger Levesque and Servando Carrasco were each honored.
MLS W.O.R.K.S. is Major League Soccer's community outreach initiative dedicated to addressing important social issues affecting young people and serves as a platform for both League and club philanthropic programs. MLS W.O.R.K.S. seeks to establish Major League Soccer as a leader for improving the lives of people through sport.
