Buffalo Bisons News Release
Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons host Syracuse Chiefs for the final game of a three-game set at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The teams split a doubleheader on Monday night. Buffalo has won six of their last eight games. Tomorrow, the Herd will welcome in the first place Rochester Red Wings for a three-game series.
It's getting Wild
The Bisons lead the IL Wild Card standings, but only 1.5 games separate four clubs. Buffalo is a half-game up on Pawtucket and Norfolk while Lehigh Valley sits just 1.5 games back. The Herd also trails Rochester by only three games in the IL North division standings.
Thruway Cup Standings
The Bisons (14-8) lead the 2013 Thruway Cup standings by 3.5 games over Rochester (11-12) and 5.5 games over Syracuse (11-16). If the Bisons were to win the next four nights at Coca-Cola Field, they would clinch their second consecutive Thruway Cup title.
On the Hill
RHP THAD WEBER has worked seven or more innings in seven of his 11 starts with the Bisons. The righty has allowed more than three earned runs only once with the Herd. In his last four starts, Weber is a 3-0 with a 2.60 ERA. He has fanned seven batters in three straight outings, including his win over the RailRiders last Thursday.
Need for Speed
Buffalo stole three bases yesterday with OF ANTHONY GOSE picking up a pair to become the third Bison with 20+ steals this season (McCoy 25, Velez 21). The last time the Herd had three players with 20 steals was 1999, led by Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer David Roberts' 39 (Marcos Scutaro 21, Jolbert Cabrera 20).
Return of the Mack
OF MIKE McCOY has drawn 51 walks this season, 10 more than any other Bison. McCoy has only struck out 51 times, making him one of only four players in the IL with 50+ walks and as many walks as strikeouts. McCoy has a .372 on-base percentage, just .001 behind INF JIM NEGRYCH for the team lead.
Bisons Bits
The Bisons have the IL North's best division record at 34-25, four games better than Rochester (36-33)...Bisons pitchers have issued 382 walks this season, four fewer than any other IL club...Buffalo is a league-best 44-11 (.800) when they score first in a game.
Blue Jays Update
Oakland scored four runs in the 9th inning yesterday to defeat the Blue Jays (54-64), 5-1. LHP J.A. HAPP allowed just one runs in 7.0 innings, but did not earn a decision. Toronto hosts Boston tonight at 7:07 p.m.
