Roadrunners Falter Late, Fall to Colts

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners held a four-run lead against the San Angelo Colts on Monday night at Foster Field but allowed three unanswered runs late in the game to lose 8-7.

The Roadrunners (35-36) trail the Colts (36-34) by a game and a half in the standings for second place.

Braden Embry got the Colts on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run giving them the early 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners answered back in the top of the third. Jordan Itier led off with a double and then came around to score on an RBI single by Travis Clark tying the game at one.

Edinburg grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth after Itier hit a three-run home run off of San Angelo starter Demetrius Banks making it 4-1.

The Colts cut the lead in half at 4-2 after Bubby Williams hit an RBI single scoring Embry from second.

Tim Battle extended the Roadrunners lead with a two-run double in the top of the fifth but the Colts answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning making it a one-run game at 6-5.

In the top of the sixth, Derrick Pyles hit an RBI single scoring Clark from second that pushed Edinburg's lead 7-5.

San Angelo scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Miguel Alfonso and then added two more runs in bottom of the seventh after a fielding error and an RBI single from Jon Dziomba that gave the Colts the 8-7 lead.

Edinburg got the tying run in scoring position in the top of the ninth but Cephas Howard retired the side for his eighth save of the season giving the Colts the 8-7 victory.

Scott Hartling (1-1) took earned the win after pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Alex Schmarzo (2-3) took the loss for Edinburg after allowing an unearned run.

The Roadrunners and Colts will wrap up their five-game series Tuesday night at Foster Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
