THE HILLCATS: Dropped their last series 2-1 to the Salem Red Sox in Lynchburg last week...They were off yesterday, and last played on Saturday night...Salem beat the ‘Cats in the series finale 3-0...RHP Greg Ross held the Red Sox scoreless until the seventh inning...He retired his first 13 batters, before C Blake Schwartz broke up the perfect game with one out in the fifth...A two-out single from 2B Mookie Betts then drove in the game's first run in the seventh...Ross (7-5) gave up one run, four hits, walked one, and struck out five in seven innings and lost...The Hillcats managed just three hits in the game, two of which came in the ninth inning...They loaded the bases with one out down 3-0 in the final frame, but a 6-4-3 double play ended the game....Lynchburg is 15-23 in the second half, a game and a half out of a playoff spot...

VS. WINSTON-SALEM: The Hillcats are 9-5 against the Dash this season, and 5-2 at BB&T Ballpark...The ‘Cats have won both series openers when traveling to Winston-Salem his series...The offenses have reigned supreme in the series with both clubs posting ERAs over 5.00 against the other...They have combined to score 154 runs and hit 30 home runs in 14 games...INF Jeremy Farrell has seen the biggest boost in production when facing the Hillcats, batting .258 on the season, but .362 against Lynchburg...

SIX-PACK OF SHUTOUTS: The Hillcats were held scoreless for the sixth time this season on Saturday...They have now been shut out more times than they have shut out other teams (5-6)...Fortunately for the Hillcats they could be due for an offense boost, as they are averaging six runs per game at BB&T Ballpark, where they begin a three-game series tonight...

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: 3B Kyle Kubitza collected his second Player of the Week honor today...Last week, he batted .478 (11-for-23) with three doubles, two triples, a home run, an RBI, and six runs scored...He also won the award for the week of June 10-16, a week that saw Kubitza hit a home run in three consecutive games at BB&T Ballpark...He has a hit in all seven games he's played in Winston-Salem this year, batting .370 (10-for-27) with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, nine RBI, and seven runs scored...He's also currently on a six-game hitting streak, getting a hit in every game he played in last week on his way Player of the Week nod...

IT'S NOT HY-AMS, IT'S HYAMS: 2B Levi Hyams is also had a hit in every game last week, extending his current hitting streak to six games with a 1-for-3 effort Saturday...He's batting 292 (7-for-24) with two doubles, a home run, four RBI, and a run scored during the streak...He has lifted his batting average 36 points, from .129 to .165...Prior to this stretch, he hadn't had a streak longer that two games with the Hillcats...He was called up from Low-A Rome at the All-Star Break, and has played in 32 games so far...

STARTERS STREAK ENDED: Hillcats starting pitching went a whole week without allowing a run (pretty much down to the inning)...RHP Greg Ross snapped the streak he helped start by allowing an earned run in the seventh inning Saturday night...The streak started with the final two innings of LHP Ryan Hinson's start the Saturday before...He allowed three earned runs in the fifth inning that night but then threw the sixth and seventh scoreless...Beginning there, the rotation completed 35 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run...Only RHP Williams Perez allowed a run at all, an unearned score last Wednesday in five innings at Frederick...The Hillcats have allowed two runs, one earned, in 34 innings over the last six games, while the bullpen has surrendered 10 runs, nine earned, over 22 innings in the same stretch...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Jake Cose was selected in the 27th round of the 2011 draft by the White Sox out of San Joaquin Delta (CA) Junior College...Helped his team win the 2011 California State Title before signing with the White Sox...The Stockton, CA native reported to Short-season Bristol after signing...Went 1-1 with an 8.18 ERA in his professional debut season (11 relief appearances)...Sent back to Bristol in 2012 as a starter...Went 3-6 with a 4.38 ERA in 12 starts...Had 64 strikeouts in 61.1 innings...Made one appearance with Low-A Kannapolis in September to end the season...Tossed three scoreless innings in his first Single A start...Broke camp with a full-season club for first time this season in Low-A Kannapolis...Went 4-3 with a 1.72 ERA in 10 starts...Fanned 63 in 57.2 innings...Promoted to Hi-A Winston-Salem in June...Went 1-2 with a 7.09 ERA in June, including giving up four runs in five innings against the Hillcats...In July, he went 2-2 with a 3.93 ERA...
