Bisons vs. Clippers - Game Notes - August 2, 2013
August 2, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons face the Columbus Clippers in the final game of a four-game series at Huntington Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is 4-3 on its current roadtrip that ends tonight. The Bisons will host Pawtucket for four games at Coca-Cola Field starting tomorrow night.
The Race is On
The Bisons made up ground in the IL North and IL Wild Card races last night as both Rochester and Pawtucket lost. Buffalo is 2.5 games back of the Red Wings for the division lead and they trail the PawSox by just 1.5 games for the International League's lone wild card spot.
vs. the Clippers
The Bisons clinched a season-series victory with their 5-1 win over the Clippers last night. The Herd took the opening series 3-1, July 22-25, and now are 5-2 against Columbus this year. It's the Bisons fourth season win over the Clippers in the last five years with a 24-15 overall record.
On the Mound
LHP J.A HAPP is on MLB rehab assignment and will make his third appearance for the Bisons tonight. This will be his sixth rehab start overall since being placed on the disabled list by the Blue Jays on May 8. Happ took the loss in his last outing on July 28 in Toledo as he allowed six runs in 4.2 innings of work.
Roster Moves
The Bisons activated INF JIM NEGRYCH off the disabled list. The IL All-Star missed eight games and still leads the Bisons in average (.305), doubles (25) and on-base pct. (.380). Meanwhile, the Blue Jays recalled RHP NEIL WAGNER, who was a perfect 16-for-16 in save chances.
Shutting it Down
Since July 23, Bisons relievers have posted a 0.99 ERA over 27.1 innings of work. Over that span, the bullpen has only allowed 16 hits and eight walks with 30 strikeouts. Last night, RHP JOHN STILSON and RHP JEREMY JEFFRESS struck out five of the 10 batters they faced.
Bisons Bits
INF MAURO GOMEZ leads the IL with 28 home runs, and is T3rd in all of minor league baseball...INF RYAN GOINS is hitting .382 (13-34) with seven RBI over the last 10 games. Both totals lead the club over that span...INF MIKE MCCOY has 22 stolen bases with an 85% success rate (22-26).
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (50-58) dropped their series opener in Anaheim last night, 8-2. Former Bisons RHP JUAN PEREZ held the Angels scoreless in 2.2 innings of work out of the bullpen. The Jays and Angels will play game two of the four-game set tonight at 10:05 p.m.
