Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve, Double-A affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are pleased to announce their schedule for the 16th season of baseball in Curve, Pa. The 2014 slate is highlighted by the Eastern League All-Star Game, which returns to Altoona for the second time in franchise history July 16 with pre-event festivities scheduled for July 15. Altoona will also open the season at home and host the fan-favorite Fourth of July game.

The 2014 campaign will open April 3 when the Curve play host to the Erie SeaWolves as part of a seven-game homestand to begin the season at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Altoona's home finale will be on Thursday, August 28 against Richmond. The Curve will end next year's regular season on the road in Bowie over Labor Day Weekend.

For the fourth straight season, the Curve will be home for the Fourth of July, taking on the Harrisburg Senators on Friday, July 4, 2014.

"There are plenty of highlights on the 2014 schedule," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "Being able to open at home, playing in Curve, Pa. on the Fourth of July, and having plenty of weekend dates in the summer for fans to enjoy would make for a good season. Then, you add our league's marquee event, the Eastern League All-Star Game, in mid-July and you realize that it will be a great 2014. We're extremely pleased with the schedule ahead."

Curve fans will be well-acquainted with fellow Western Division clubs Erie (Tigers), Akron (Indians), and Richmond (Giants) with each of those opponents coming in for three series or more in 2014. Harrisburg (Nationals) and Bowie (Orioles) will both visit Altoona for two series apiece.

Foes from the Eastern division like Portland (Red Sox) and Trenton (Yankees) will each make one trip to Curve, Pa. in 2014. Portland visits PNG Field June 10-12 while the Thunder make their one and only stop for a mid-week series August 12-14.

Regular game times for Curve home games will be similar to 2013. With a few exceptions, games Monday-Friday will begin at 6:30 p.m. in April and May and 7 p.m. from June-August. With one exception, Saturday games are slated for a 6 p.m. start all season and Sunday games will be at 1 p.m. on April 6, May 4, and June 1 with all others beginning at 6 p.m.

Fans enjoying day games will have the three Sunday afternoon contests at 1:00 p.m., a Saturday afternoon game on April 19 at 1:00 p.m., three weekday morning tilts at 10:30 a.m. (May 7, 21, and 22), and a noon first pitch on Wednesday, July 30.

Ticket information and information surrounding the festivities for the E.L. All-Star Game will be announced during the upcoming offseason.

Altoona (51-57) continues its homestand with the Binghamton Mets tonight at 7 p.m. from Peoples Natural Gas Field. Gates swing open at 5 p.m. for tonight's game with a pregame performance from Cousin Mike on the Rocky Gap Casino Resort Entertainment Deck from 5-6:30 p.m. The first 500 fans 21+ into the gates tonight will take home a Curve Koozie presented by Redd's Apple Ale.

It's also a Thirsty ThursdayTM in Curve, Pa. with $2 16oz. drafts of Miller Lite on special tonight along with half-priced 22oz. sodas.
