Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Zach Kometani delivered a dramatic tenth inning single to lift the Traverse City Beach Bums to a 4-3 win in the rubber game against the Florence Freedom in front of 4,453 fans at Wuerfel Park Tuesday night.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Sean Gusrang reached on a throwing error. Traverse City took advantage of the Freedom mistake as Marcus Nidiffer doubled in Gusrang. Ryan Still followed with a sacrifice fly plating Nidiffer and cutting the Florence lead 3-2.

The Beach Bums didn't stop there when Taylor Wrenn led off the eighth with a double. A Jose Vargas groundout moved him to third and two batters later Wrenn came home on Carlo Testa's single. Testa had two singles in the contest to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

The game stayed at a score of 3-3 until the tenth inning. Wrenn led off the frame being hit by a pitch. A Chase Burch walk pushed Wrenn into scoring position. With two outs and a 1-1 count Kometani punched a single into right field scoring Wrenn to take the win and the series.

Nick Capito (3-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief. Jake Sabol started and surrendered just two fourth inning runs in six innings of work, matching a season-high with five strikeouts. Jorge Marban (2-2) took the loss for the Freedom. Florence' starter Dan Jensen worked seven strong innings against the Beach Bums giving up just two unearned runs while striking out six.

The Freedom built their lead in the fourth inning on a throwing error by Traverse City followed by a Bobby Joe Tannehill RBI double to go up 2-0. They would add a run in the seventh thanks to an Aljay Davis single to plate Tannehill who singled earlier in the frame.

The Beach Bums now welcome the Frontier Greys to town for a three-game set beginning Wednesday night. It is Halloween night at the ballpark. Kids can trick-or-treat at Wuerfel Park from 5:30-6:00 pm. It is also a Weenie Wednesday at the park presented by Kent Quality Foods and Gordon Food Service with $1 hot dogs at the ballpark. As an added bonus, fans who came to Tuesday night's game can bring their tickets back to the ballpark on Wednesday for a half-price chair back seat thanks to the Beach Bums comeback victory. Mike Devine (5-1,4.44) will get the start for Traverse City against Casey Delgado (1-4, 3.67) for the Greys. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
