Honkers Fall in Series Finale With Bombers

Rochester,MN - The Rochester Honkers dropped the second game of a two-game series with the Battle Creek Bombers by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday, July 30, at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, MI. Kevin Barker (UC Davis) drew a walk in the top of the first inning to get things started for the Honkers. He advanced to second base on a passed ball and scored on a RBI double from Max Murphy (Bradley) to give the Honkers an early 1-0 lead.
Gabe Acevedo led off the the bottom of the third inning with a single for the Bombers. He advanced to second base on a wild pitch and came around to score on a two-out single from Rouric Bridgewater to tie the score at 1-1 after three innings. Battle Creek gained its first lead of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning when Matt Fears started the inning with with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Tommy Mirabelli and Fears each delivered a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase the lead to 4-1. Caleb Dugas (Copiah Lincoln Community College) and Matt Halloran (Minnesota) each singled with one out in the ninth inning, but were left on base after a game-ending double play.
Keegan Yuhl earned the win (2-1) for the Bombers, as he allowed one run on four hits in six innings of work. Logan Spitzack (St. Cloud State) took the loss (2-2) for the Honkers. He allowed four runs on six hits in four innings of work, while striking out five. Kellen Urbon picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. Nathan Roth (Doane College) and Stephen Paladino (Felician College) each tossed two scoreless innings in relief for Rochester. Max Murphy (Bradley) led the Honkers offense by going 2-for-4 with a RBI double. Jarad Watts (Bethel University) added a double in the game.
Rochester (4-19, 22-36) will continue an eight-game road trip on Wednesday, July 31, at 6:35 p.m. in Lakeshore WI. Matt Kent (Texas A&M) is slated to make the start for the Honkers. The team has been victorious in each of Kent's last three starts. The Honkers have two games with the Chinooks before playing a pair of games in St. Cloud and Thunder Bay. Rochester returns home to Mayo Field on Tuesday, August 6, at 7:05 p.m. to host Battle Creek in the first game of a six-game home stand that will wrap-up the regular season.
