July 27, 2013 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

LAST NIGHT (TGIF) ... The Pelicans erased a 2-0 deficit Friday and came from behind to beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks 4-3 at Frawley Stadium. Joe Maloney delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning. Trever Adams added an RBI triple in the game. Ryan Harvey grabbed his seventh win.

LEADING THE PACK ... Nick Martinez is now tied for the league lead with nine wins on the season. Winston-Salem's Chris Beck has also won nine games. The nine wins is the most the all-star has won in a single season in his career surpassing the eight he won last season.

STREAK SNAPPED ... Rougned Odor scored the eventual game-winning run Friday but failed to extend his hitting streak to 18 games. Odor's hitting streak lasted from July 7-25 and he hit .362 during the stretch. To date, it's the third longest hitting streak in the Carolina League this season.

JULY ... The Pelicans are hitting .279 in July, the second best team batting average league-wide during the month. The Birds are on pace to have their best offensive month of the season (April, .236; May, .243; June, .256).

RECORD WATCH ... The most home wins the Pelicans have had in one season is 49, which they accomplished back in 2002. The Pelicans can match that with 13 home wins in their final 20 home contests. Only two Pelicans all-time have tallied 40 doubles in a season; Rougned Odor currently sits at 31 (Franchise record: Mejia, 47). Only five Pelicans have ever had more than 140 hits in a season (Franchise record: Giles, 162). Odor (110) and Luis Sardinas (107) have both eclipsed 100 hits in 2013.

UP NEXT ... Tonight the Pelicans continue a seven-game road trip with one more game against the Wilmington BlueRocks. The Pelicans next home game is this Monday, July 29, against the Winston-Salem Dash.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only current Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back-to-back postseasons. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.

ON THE AIR ... All 140 Myrtle Beach Pelicans games in 2013 can be heard on Fox Sports Radio on the Grand Strand (AM 1050 and FM 101.9). Video for all 70 home games is available online at www.milb.tv.
