RHP Logan Verrett (9-5, 4.26) vs. LHP Fred Lewis (0-4, 2.17)

Saturday, July 27, 2013 - Game #107 - Home Game #58

NYSEG Stadium - Binghamton, NY - 7:05 PM

LAST GAME: The B-Mets and Trenton Thunder split a doubleheader on Friday night. In the opener, Binghamton lost by a 4-1 score. The Thunder scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed. Binghamton's lone run came home on in infield single from Cesar Puello. In the nightcap, Binghamton returned the favor with a 4-1 victory. The B-Mets packed all of their offense into the fifth inning, as it was the only frame with a base hit. Richard Lucas blasted a grand slam against Mikey O'Brien to flip the momentum. Armando Rodriguez threw two perfect innings of relief to pick up his first Double-A win of the season. Jeff Walters tossed a scoreless seventh to pick up his league-leading 29th save of the season.

BINGHAMTON PITCHER: RHP Logan Verrett makes his 19th start of the season for the B-Mets, and his third against Trenton. He is 1-1 against Trenton this season in two previous starts. On May 8, he threw a season-high 8.2 innings to pick up the win. He was tagged with the loss on June 21 when he gave up four runs in 6.2 innings. In his last start, he gave up five runs in six innings in a loss to Reading. Entering play, Verrett is tied for the second-most wins in the league with nine. He was selected to represent the Eastern Division in this year's All-Star game. In 116.1 innings pitched, opponents are hitting .247 against the righthander. He was drafted by the Mets in the 3rd round of the 2011 draft out of Baylor University.

TRENTON PITCHER: LHP Fred Lewis pitches in his 19th game of the season for Trenton, and his fourth as a starter. Lewis has been primarily a bullpen member this season. In three starts, he has not allowed an earned run in 10.1 innings. He went a season-long 4.0 innings in his last start against New Hampshire. Lewis has pitched in three games against Binghamton out of the bullpen. His only decision was a loss to Binghamton on June 6. In 37.1 innings this season, he has allowed nine earned runs. He has posted a 2.17 ERA, and an opponent batting average of .280. The Yankees drafted Lewis in the 47th round of the 2010 draft out of Tennessee Wesleyan College.

DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT: Friday's doubleheader was the fourth time Binghamton has split against their opponents. In five twin bills this season, Binghamton is 1-0-4. In all four splits, they have lost the first game of the day before winning the nightcap.

GRAND SLAMS: Richard Lucas was the third B-Met to hit a grand slam this season. Cory Vaughn and Danny Muno each hit one earlier this season. Each of the last five grand slams hit in the Eastern League have affected Binghamton. Out of the last five grannies, Binghamton has hit two of them and allowed the other three.

REWRITE THE HISTORY BOOKS: Jeff Walters earned his 29th save of the season on Wednesday, giving him the franchise record for most saves in a single season. He passed the record held by Jerrod Riggan, who recorded 28 saves in the 2000 season. Walters is 29-for-31 in save chances this season. The most career saves in Binghamton history is 36, set by Tim Lavigne. Walters is currently third on that list.

TRYING TO FIND THE BATS: In the first three games of this current series against the Thunder, Binghamton has only scored five runs and tallied nine hits. That is fewest number of hits for the B-Mets over a three-game stretch in at least the last five years. The fewest in the last five years was when Binghamton had 12 hits from August 5-7, 2012.

WEEKEND GAMES: On Saturdays and Sundays, Binghamton is a combined 27-7. On Saturday, they are 14-3, and are 13-4 on Sundays. On weekdays, they are 38-33.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets finish up their week-long homestand with one final game against Trenton. RHP Noah Syndergaard has the ball for the B-Mets. He will throw against RHP Zach Nuding. First pitch is at 6:35 PM.
