Diablos Squelch T-Bones in Series Opener

July 26, 2013 - American Association (AA) - Kansas City Monarchs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Although they spotted El Paso two runs in the first, the T-Bones squelched scoring opportunities with three inning-ending double plays in a 5-3 loss in front of 6,740 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Friday Night.

Kansas City scored all three of its runs in the second inning off Diablos starter Austin Cardin (3-1). Consecutive base hits from Jairo Perez and Petey Paramore started the T-Bones' momentum. Two walks from Cardin brought in Kansas City's first run of the game, and the T-Bones brought in two additional runs.

With Shaun Garceau (4-7) on the mound, El Paso opened the scoring with three singles in the first inning. The Diablos scored another in the following inning off a Kansas City error.

Despite a strong outing from Garceau who went 6 1/3 innings allowing five runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts, the Diablos defense was relentless. The T-Bones were held to seven hits and eight scoreless innings, thanks in part to the three double plays.

Kansas City (26-40) and El Paso (19-45) continue their three-game series with game two at 7:05 Saturday night. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
