Sharks Win Fourth Straight Game on Friday Night

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks (12-7, 26-20) picked up their fourth straight win as their hot hitting continued as they picked up 13 hits and won 6-4 over the Fayetteville SwampDogs (8-5, 25-15) on the road Friday night.

The SwampDogs got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Brian Celsi to lead 1-0. Zach Stephens led off the top of the second inning for the Sharks and eventually scored on a ground out to tie the game 1-1.

Cody Dolan gave the Sharks their first lead of the game on an RBI single back up the middle to score Austin Below to make it 2-1. The SwampDogs regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Michael Timm hit an RBI triple and then eventually scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tyler Moore to make it 3-2 Fayetteville.

The Sharks answered in the top of the sixth inning as Stephens scored on a double off the bat of Justin Weaver to make it 3-3. The next hitter for the Sharks Mike Dunster hit a double into left center field to score Weaver to make it 4-3. Ransom LaLonde scored on a pass ball in the bottom half of the sixth for the SwampDogs to tie up the game 4-4.

Dolan drove in another run for the Sharks in the top of the seventh inning to make it 5-4. Stehpens drove in one more run in the top of the ninth inning on a double down the right field line to score Freedman to make it 6-4 Sharks. Hunter Smith came into the ballgame in the bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his first save of the year. Stu Jones was the winning pitcher as he improves his record to 2-1 on the year.

Stephens went 3-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and a RBI and Dolan went 3-4 with two RBIs for the Sharks. Mitchell Kranson went 2-4 for the SwampDogs. The Wilmington Sharks will continue their road trip as they go on the road on Saturday night to take on the Edenton Steamers with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
