79th Annual NBC World Series Begins Friday

WICHITA, KS- The 79th annual National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series begins Friday, July 26th at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The Liberal (KS) BeeJays and the El Dorado (KS) Broncos, two past NBC World Series champions, highlight the 16-team field during the tournament's first week. Liberal was the last team standing in 2010 and has won the tournament a record five times. El Dorado captured its third championship one year prior in 2009.

Tournament newcomers include the Houston (TX) Tuzos, the Albuquerque (NM) Diablos, and a team comprised of Kansas alumni. The Jasper (IN) Reds are making their first appearance since the 1994 World Series.

The champion and runner-up of the first week qualify for the inaugural Championship Week, presented by Papa John's (August 2nd-10th). Fourteen teams are already slated into the Championship Week bracket, including the two-time defending champion Santa Barbara (CA) Foresters. Santa Barbara has won the tournament four times in the last seven years and aims to join Fairbanks (AK) and the Fort Wayne (IN) G-E Club as the only teams to have won three championships in a row.
