Rochester Red Wings News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Red Wings and IronPigs play game three of their four-game series Wednesday night (7:05 p.m.) at Frontier Field after Lehigh Valley won for the first time in Rochester all season and evened the series at a game apiece with an 8-1 win on Tuesday... With the loss, combined with Norfolk's doubleheader sweep of Pawtucket, the Red Wings relinquished their Wild Card lead and now trail the Tides by one game... Rochester did gain a half-game in the IL North and currently trail PAW by just three games... The Wings are still 13-7 in July and 34-21 since May 27 -- the 2nd best mark in the IL over that span... In fact, the Red Wings run began with a four-game sweep of the IronPigs 5/27-5/30... Meanwhile, Lehigh Valley, who now sits 1.5 GB of Rochester and in 3rd place in the IL North has still dropped 7 of 9 games and 12 of their last 18 overall.

WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:

¨Will avoid losing 2 straight games for the first time since July 8-9 @ SWB and 2 straight at home for the first time since 6/10-11 vs TOL

¨Will win their 32nd game against an IL North opponent, matching their win total from the 2012 season.

¨Will beat Lehigh Valley for the 6th time in their last 7 games (all at Frontier Field).

HOME SWEET HOME: Despite last night's setback, Rochester is still 12-4 at Frontier Field since June 13 and 28-22 overall on the season... Going back further, the Wings are now 21-9 at home since May 16... Rochester hasn't lost back-to-back games at Frontier Field since June 10-11 vs TOL... The Wings were just 7-13 in their first 20 games of the season at Frontier Field... Prior to going 39-33 at home last season, the Wings were just 94-122 (.435) in Rochester from 2009-2011.

BUTERA RECALLED; RODRIGUEZ JOINS WINGS: With Joe Mauer on paternity leave after the birth of his twin daughters, Red Wings catcher Drew Butera was summoned to the Big Leagues for the first time in 2013 after spending the majority of the last three seasons with the Twins... Butera, a lifetime .183 Major League hitter with 5 HR and 41 RBI in 184 career games, was hitting .215 with 2 HR and 10 RBI in 25 games with Rochester... He missed the first 60 games of the season with a broken bone in his left hand after being hit by a pitch from BUF's Ramon Ortiz on the very first pitch he saw this season on April 5... After batting .343 (12-for-35) over a 10-game stretch from 6/19-7/4, Butera was just 3-for-28 (.107) over his last 9 games prior to promotion... Filling Butera's roster spot will be catcher Jairo Rodriguez who was transferred from Cedar Rapids (A). The 24-year-old backstop was hitting .212 with four doubles and 14 RBI in 40 games between Cedar Rapids and Ft. Myers (A+).

EXCELLENT EPPLEY; MAGNIFICENT MARTIS: Red Wings relievers Cody Eppley & Shairon Martis have led the bullpen resurgence... Eppley has turned in 11.2 scoreless innings over his last 8 appearances -- setting a Wings season-high for most scoreless innings by a reliever... Caleb Thielbar held the longest scoreless streak prior to Eppley with 10.1 scoreless frames from 4/27-5/15... Eppley hasnft allowed a hit since July 7 vs. PAW - a span of 7.1 innings - and has only yielded one hit and 4 walks while striking out 12 over his streak... Meanwhile, RHP Shairon Martis has been really good of late as well posting a 0.60 ERA (ER/15.0 IP), a .154 average against (8-for-52 against) and 4 saves over his last 8 appearances... In 8 save opportunities this season, Martis has yet to allow a run over 13.2 IP (5 h, 3 bb, 14 k)... He currently leads the club with 7 saves after entering the season with only one career save (2005; AZL Giants).

LOPSIDED LOSSES: The last three Red Wings defeats (vs SYR on 7/18; @ SYR on 7/20; vs LHV on 7/23) have come by a combined 20 runs... Prior to the All-Star Break, the last 12 Wings losses all came by 3 runs or less and came by a combined 25 runs... Prior to the Wings 11-4 setback on 7/18 vs SYR, the last time the Wings had lost by more than three runs was on June 11 vs TOL (9-5).

GETTING DEFENSIVE: The Red Wings have committed just 8 errors in July and only 14 since June 16 - a span of 36 games... The Wings are tied with Pawtucket for the best fielding percentage in the league (.983) and the fewest amount of errors (66)... The last time the Wings committed multiple errors in one game was June 15 vs GWN... Rochester is on pace to make just 90 errors in 2013 -- it would be their lowest total since at least the 2005 season.

MORE ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:

¨Chris Parmelee broke up the shutout with a two-out, RBI double in the 8th inning... Parmelee finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI... After back-to-back multi-hit games, Parmelee is hitting .318 (7-for-22) in his first 6 games with Rochester.

¨Oswaldo Arcia, who had been 7-for-11 with two homers and three RBI in his first four games since being optioned before the All-Star break, was pulled after the 2nd inning... He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout in his lone at bat.

¨Nick Blackburn allowed 6 runs on 10 hits in 5.0 innings in his Red Wings season debut... The six earned runs are the most he has ever allowed in 32 career starts for the Red Wings.
